Dumb brainstorm this morning. Never happen.

Buying gas this AM, I thought "gosh."
I don't think "gosh" that often....but.... anyway....

I thought ...GOSH, wouldn't it be cool if our currency had equivalent denomination coins on it?

Bust dollar on the One.
$5 Lib on the Five
Bust Eagle on the Ten
Hi Relief on the Twenty

.....Hmmm....

nope. Confuse the mob. :D

But still..........

Yeah, even on the back, I'd think "gosh." :D

Yeah, it would definitely be cool to be able to redeem a $5 bill for five Morgans... :)

Actually, I really like that idea...Far preferable to portraits of people....Time to do away with that fad.... I don't want any politicians, entertainers, sports or other people on coins or currency. Great idea @topstuf. Cheers, RickO

Here's some trivia for you guys. This is the first US currency to show the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST".

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
"Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value---zero."----Voltaire
"Everything you say should be true, but not everything true should be said."----Voltaire

I know the first coin was the 2c piece. I've always assumed it was the first currency, but never checked.
I would love it if we went back to allegorical coins/cash. With today's cancel culture, we may be one step closer, even though I'd probably not like the reason.

I agree but the ship sailed with the Isabella commemorative. I was reading some opinions back then (start of 20th century) about how stale and boring liberty is and people wanted less symbolic designs. I guess no one anticipated that the designs would be held hostage by political interests.

IGWT appears on this note because it shows Morgan dollar reverses that show this motto. It wasn't formally added to our currency until required by law in 1955 and it first appeared in 1957.

My representation of the 2c design is the shield nickel.

Everyone complains about the designs on our coins. Why would we want the coins with designs nobody likes to be one our paper money?

Ah, NM. You’re talking about obsolete designs....

Gee, I didn’t realize you were that old, that in the early 1900’s you were reading stuff! 😂

A day without fine wine and working on your coin collection is like a day without sunshine!!!

Lol, Oil of Olay does a great job...

But for clarity, I was reading some opinions recorded from back then...

Except using obsolete coinage would just confuse the issue. The Morgan Dollar note was contemporary with the Morgan Dollar.

Really? I'm pretty sure half this forum was standing in line at the Mint for the release of the Barber coinage.
