I bet he was surveilled for a time. How else would the criminals know he had valuables?
Or do you think they just wanted an easy mark with a brief case?
Looks like the perps got quite a haul. :'(

Terrible thing, especially anyone who preys on the elderly. Hope they can recover the coins.
Bank tellers make about $12/hour & get to see a lot of personal financial information.
Not sure how well vetted they are.
My Saint Set
Thieves are surely opportunistic. My neighbor, in his 70's, was attacked in the same manner when pulling into his driveway. He had just won a $1,000 jackpot at the neighborhood grocery. It's about a mile from his home and he made several turns to get home. Obviously he never looked in the rearview mirror. He was pistol whipped and spent more than a week in the hospital but did recover fully, then sold the home and moved.

Disgusting
Crime never takes a vacation. Things like this are why my coins are at the SDB.
My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
They'll get'em.
I hope they hang them high
Being followed home from the bank seems to be a common scheme. A few months ago a man drove home from the bank in Coral Springs Florida and when he got to the front porch someone ran up behind him and shot him in the head, took the bank bag and drove off.
It was later discovered from video surveillance that the attacker followed him from the bank thinking that he had just made a withdrawal but he went to the bank to make a deposit. The bank bag was empty.
After all these years my wife still thinks I'm sexy. Every time I walk by she says "What An Ass"
🤬
Unbelievable the things people do.

Very sad.... Yes, he was targeted....No doubt followed from the bank. @Pnies20 has given excellent advice....Whether carrying valuables or not, practice caution until it becomes routine....You are in charge of your own security - the REAL first responder. Cheers, RickO
