I messaged the seller and he said he’d taken down the listing.

Yes that was a reproduction and not even close to the recent fakes made in China.
It was an error all right....
Just not by the U.S. Mint.... Thanks for the links...Cheers, RickO
Since I am uneducated on this topic could some one explain pick the up points that identity this as not authentic? I would like to have a better understanding and suspect others could benefit from learning as well.

The hair i think is the standout for me. Fake has hard lines and real thing is more flowing. In my experience (very minimal) a comparison of the lettering is the best starting point for lower end fakes. The higher end stuff needs item specific research or a trip to our hosts.
The rare/valuable 'spaghetti hair/wrong font error'.
This is actually a good depiction of what the Long Island would look like if it were made by the mint today, IMO.
i'm not as sharp on the nuances of commems but for me, this piece has the quintessential rounded edges around the details and somewhat mushy details outside the norm. it is an "overall" look although someone more educated on these could site something specific. - the overall look isn't always reliable as commems and half cents, perhaps a couple others generally suffer from this but a side-by-side with a known authentic counterpart usually wraps it up. i'd say the color is off a bit as well.
i personally won't say 100% forgery on this one only because i'm not as sharp with them and i've not done a side-by-side with an image of an authentic one. i really don't like calling something bad when its not and i've done it a few times. i've not reported it but trust it will be handled as the member see fit.
It does look like from the image is says "In Soo We Trust" fwiw.
on the 1917, i'd say besides the overall look/color, the date is quite off from visual memory.
Totally agree with you on that!!
