Reputable Las Vegas Coin Dealers?

giorgio11giorgio11 Posts: 4,212 ✭✭✭✭✭

I had a call today from a gentleman in Las Vegas who is trying to dispose of his deceased collector father's estate. After he gave me a brief overview it sounded like he had a whole lot of common stuff, Morgans, Mercurys, Roosies, in all 24,000 individual coins. There could well be something rare and valuable in all that stuff. Does anyone know of a good, reputable dealer in the Las Vegas area whom you personally know? This gentleman knows nothing about coins and I'm trying to keep him from getting ripped off. PM me if you prefer. I just don't get out West so don't know the good dealers out there. Thanks for any recommendations.

Kind regards,

George

I don’t know, but one of our board members might. Calling @AUandAG.

@lasvegasteddy is there, maybe he could chime in? Message him and he will get the email at least.

Wow... first impression was, that is a huge collection....Then I began to think of my coins..... :o Well, maybe not quite as many if I leave out the jars of wheaties and the box of centennial quarters... I think I should do some downsizing soon....Oh the pain and agony.... :D Cheers, RickO

Ricko downsizing? I sense the waters churning before a feeding frenzy already.

There are a couple of dealer(other than myself) I suggest
John Jankowski (las Vegas coin company)
    Chris (archangel coin)
    I don’t usually buy collections

There is a pop up show at the palace station in early July where they may be able to get some offers.

I don’t know how their buying goes, but I had outstanding experiences making purchases from them a few years ago visiting both Archangel and Sahara (if I recall correctly, the latter floor is clear epoxy with embedded coins)
Chris at Archangel was really helpful and knowledgeable. Best of luck with the estate.

Sadly, I think our friend, LasVegasTeddy, hasn't been with us, literally or figuratively, for a few years now :(
    RIP

As to the OP request...I can't help. I know there are a few dealers I have gone to there, when visiting, but not sure how they are about buying, so I won't recommend as I don't know.

I know that, back in the '90s, my grandmother was really screwed over by some dealer in Pahrump (where she retired with my grandfather when they moved to Nevada). Wish I knew the name of who that person was...…...

    @Bochiman
I spoke to Teddy on the phone about a month ago and I know another forum member that emailed with him a few days ago. He just got burned out on the forums is all.

Very glad to hear that. I had taken time off the forum previously and, when I came back and asked, someone said he had passed. Super glad that I was misinformed. Please tell him hello from me when you talk next.

Wowee....24,000 likely common raw coins? A dealer would have to get it for peanuts to justify the labor cost to go through it.

I think a lot of it is probably spending money.
