Picked up today at my B + M shop. 1963p, hoping I pick not only a beauty in color, condition and/or full steps but the DD variety? I'll keep you up to date on any findings, thanks. Pics coming... :)

I wouldn't imagine you will find much in terms of toning. Perhaps some pastel color or an improper alloy mix. Good luck!

It is very interesting to see posts like this, where there is much excitement over a roll of cents or nickels from the 1960's.

Especially when I remember as a YN being able to obtain unlimited numbers of these rolls from the bank at face value because they were newly minted coins with no premium at all.

What type of car is that? Very unusual gear shifter, never seen a button in the middle for “S”

it's hard to swallow but the best you'll find will be an MS65 non-FS, and that's questionable.

Roll searching can be fun....and there is always the hope (rarely encountered) of finding a treasure. However, that is why people use metal detectors, pan for gold, and search for fabled buried treasure. The rewards are out there...If it was easy, we would all be telling stories.....Cheers, RickO

No full steps .... I'm guessing. But am hoping you find At least a dozen to feed the hobbyists craving them.

Good morning guy's! Yes, I will again continue to search through very soon. Just woke up, night shift. Lol. I'm thinking I'll head back to my shop and pick up a couple more rolls of Jefferson's. I do recall her having a roll of '49 and '58's?

    To me, Full Step Jefferson's are just that, no cuts or blemishes that go across them. Our host has what appears to be fairly distinctive criteria;

"Full Steps (FS) is the designation following the numerical grade of some regular-strike MS60 or higher Jefferson nickels that have at least five separated steps (lines) at the base of Monticello. Any major disturbance or interruption of these steps or lines, whether caused by contact, planchet problems, or another source, will result in the coin's not being designated FS. Only the slightest weakness on any step (line) is allowed for this designation. Some issues are almost never seen with Full Steps and may command a significant premium."

So, that first step disallows being a FS huh? Lol thanks for the great info. :)

Looks to me like the cut eliminates it over the "E" in Monticello. It crosses two steps. Still nice nickel!

Ok, I went through the roll. From what I checked, nothing, besides two things. The BU factor and I must find out what one poster mentioned about " bar line errors". Dont really know about those. Have to recheck maybe? But for now, guess what I bought? Yep! I'll try these. Lol

Yes. In the 60's the Jeff. Nick. had minor die breaks usually between the letters of Liberty/date to the rim. These resembled a bar like clog of metal between these features and the rim. Hence the notation label "Bar" nickels. They are not a high value error, but they were somewhat popular in the 60's/70's. Back then they were somewhat easy to obtain out of circ. I had pulled quite a few back then. If I had photo posting skills I would of displayed an example. Maybe someone here could post a pix of one. Hope this helps.

Are those coins double-wrapped? The photos make it look like the paper roll is lined with wax paper or something.

Yes, very observant! It seems to be? Do you know why? I was wondering this myself from the previous rolls I opened as well. :*

Something a collector did, I guess. Maybe to keep the coins from toning from the roll paper? Not sure if the wax paper is worse or better for that purpose.

Put together roll by a collector. Put the wax paper in for moisture. Be careful on price. They are NOT original rolls.

All comments reflect the opinion of the author, even when irrefutably accurate.

I believe there was a time when FS were not such a thing, so if you are lucky these predate the search for FS.

However, I think FS are very tough from this era.

    That's why PCGS has a 65FS for $200!
I'm guessing 90% of my roll is very attainable at a 65. Finding the Full Steps is the hard part.

Today, along with this '64p roll, I picked up two 2011d Jeffersons. Not rolls but individual ones. Both has FS's. I seen the PCGS price guide for them. Even though these are not that old. They have fairly high premiums for any FS MS 67's. I'll post some other time. I'm also going by some auctions as well. ;)
