Seems backwards to me. People were collecting coins long before they started collecting TP.
Your link did not post....And I sure would not want to try coins in place of TP...During the 'hoarding' period of weeks ago though, TP might have been used as a medium of exchange...

Ricko, the clickable link is the 3rd word in OP's sentence.

Coins are the new toilet paper?
There may be a connection considering that joke about camping; having no TP; use a dollar; and the 4 quarters.

Some thing stinks here 💩
More people truly are losing it.
Typical case of taking a government press release and turning it into a "you read it here first" breaking news story.
There is no shortage of coins. US Mint released $1.8 Billion in quarters alone last year. Federal reserve is predicting a possible supply train slowdown in what it receives from the US mint. Although they can, banks do not get coins from federal reserve banks, they get them from contracted armored carriers who recycle what is in circulation. Occasionally these carriers will go to the federal reserve banks to beef up their coin supply. This is what puts new coins into circulation. Even if the federal reserve banks see a slow down in what they receive from the mint, there will still be no shortage of coins in circulation.
I suspect federal reserve branch banks are loaded with previously released coins that have yet been passed on for circulation. I recently opened a box of shiny new 2018 quarters that finally found it's way out of the federal reserve bank vault.
Local banks and the media are over reacting. I suspect the purpose of the announcement was to possibly push consumers further toward digital banking. A sudden announcement of a shortage of currency will confirm this.

I tried wiping my butt with a dime.....and I can tell you coins are NOT the new toilet paper.
Really? I mean did you really do that?
He was joking. It was actually a Morgan dollar that he was trying to tone.

I resisted clicking on this thread for a couple days but curiosity got the best of me. Unfortunately.
That makes more sense/cents. If a larger coin, like a dollar, is used a guy can rotate it for a few uses. A dime? You’re shot down from the gate.
I tried with a pre-1855 gold dollar and an 1851 3-cent piece. Never again.

Most gross thread ever? Could someone please make it go away. Not fit for the archives either.
That used to be mounted on a handle and was used as a pie crimper.

@HeatherBoyd
Would you please remove this thread? It's gone too far off the rails.

Just a little humor. If it bothers you just don’t look at it.
Have a happy day😊
I can't help it ... I created it. LOL

Honestly it’s not so horrible. I’m more than sure it’ll go away on its own merit anyways😉
Yeah, it's starting to circle the drain without her help.
