136 Years Ago------------------------Post a Nickel of any date or a coin from 1884.
First roller coaster in America opens
On June 16, 1884, the first roller coaster in America opens at Coney Island, in Brooklyn, New York. Known as a switchback railway, it was the brainchild of LaMarcus Thompson, traveled approximately six miles per hour and cost a nickel to ride. The new entertainment was an instant success and by the turn of the century there were hundreds of roller coasters around the country.

Cool thread! 👍
My YouTube Channel
1883 Racketeer Nickel. Made to look like a 5 Dollar Gold-piece.
Someone with this in their pocket in 1884 could have rode all day at Coney Island.

Informative, thanks.
And no safety bars! Just a side handle to hold on to!
This should also work, and they look like they've been used for a bunch of purchases. I inherited most of them from my paternal grandparents...
