Such a great country.

I've talked with a couple people who got laid off during the pandemic. They were making enough extra money with unemployment that they were able to buy gold for the first time in their lives. Show me some.

My son has been laid off since March in Michigan. He was able to partially finance a car ( half down) with no job. He picked it up today. Interesting times. He wouldn’t let me help.

I'm actually not surprised if he has good credit. Car dealers are having a very hard time moving cars. Some of them may just want cars off their lots. We just returned a car after lease and no dealer would accept it because they have no space to receive it and no customers to sell it to. I read Tesla is the only one really selling at volume because they had a wait list and much of their selling is online.

Back in the 2008 recession, I knew a couple where the husband and wife were both laid off. They used their unemployment checks to finance a house. Interesting times.

Dumb. I've been laid off due to COVID. Trust me, unemployment doesn't cover the bills so just stop now. :(:'(:s

I have a brother and sister duo who visit the shop. He , at the bank, has worked every day. She, in an office, has been laid off making an extra $250 per week added to her unemployment. Stop what ? Unemployment benefits or the added stimulus ? Her brother says it isn't fair. She agrees.

^ she got one of these and thirty dollars fiat cash in change, for her one week "extra" stimulus.

At the highest level in Illinois unemployment is paying two grand every two weeks and that is after taxes. That’s 52000 take home for not working.

A friend of mine's ex-wife is getting $1150 per week while unemployed. She turned down a $70k job offer 6 weeks ago because this was the first extended vacation she's had in 25 years. Smh...

I have a friend in Missouri who told her boss to bring her back to work last because she was making 50% more staying home which was allowing her to pay down her debt.

I read last week that 60% of the unemployed were making more on unemployment. It makes you wonder that happens when the $600 federal bonus expires.

Many people make more on unemployment than they made at work. I know for some that is not the case though. It will be hard convincing people to go back to work if they make more staying home. That's why I think the "back to work bonus" some politicians are talking about is a decent plan to get people to get back working eventually.

Yes, many factual statements in this thread. Several customers are coming into buy gold and silver and making more money unemployed than they were working, In fact, I have even had crack heads that normally come to sell jewelry making money hand over fist thru the independent contractor pau deal. Its crazy, I have no problem with assistance for folks that need it, but many say they are going to ride out the Unemployment as long as they can and have no intention of going back to work. I have a couple of property owners that are customers of mine, and say that many of them are not paying the rent or lease either and their is nothing they can do currently. One of them , she has a couple of resturants that just opened back up and when she called her employees' to come back, they refused. ( I believe she reported them to the ESC).

One guy that comes into buy silver from me has been stacking like a mad man, said he quit paying all his utilities , rent and everything, nothing anybody can do about it (he says) at least for now.

I did not elect to take PPP , loans , independent contractor unemployment or anything, actually thought I would be okay and benefit from folks needing to sell. Didnt materialize, I really mis-called that one, people have piles of money due to the above. For two months in the shop, it was dead slow. literally nothing!!!. I am the type of person who over the years kept things moving, so I was unable to capitilize on the high premiums that came with the shut down, cause I didnt have any on hand, and nothing was coming in. Just in the past week & half, some stuff starting to come in again, thankfully!

I've been keeping my nieces and nephews happy, smiling, and fed. My younger sibling laid off since March due to working in 2 states and being told to file in both hasn't seen anything and probably won't till at least July?

I guess I should have filed for unemployment... My place of employment certainly shut down...I was just working a few days a week though... figured I would not qualify. Cheers, RickO

To each their own. I did not qualify for covid money and I am fine with that, it was not for me and I do not mind if my tax dollars help others. Sort of wished the price of coins had dropped particularly the 95w but alas it has not.

I didn't get anything from our government, but less foot traffic in the door for three months. That aside, plenty of our fine upstanding (working/ laid off) citizens have received, what many of us perceive to be , preferential treatment.

I was hoping to see Coins from those who received extra $
Those who might not have been able to afford ....prior to receiving such a large amount of money.
    What's to protest ? Inequality: that's right !
This thread is not about inequality, rather the opposite.

Are you protesting inequality that the low wage laid-off workers are getting more than they deserve?

This thread will not survive the weekend. Things must have changed since the last time I was unemployed for any length of time, or perhaps Texas has always been a bit tougher. We struggled big time.

The extra 600 per week is was makes the unemployment so lucrative. That will not last forever. It is part of the Corona stimulus package.
