Submission so bad, I refused to submit mine with the customer order!

jdimmickjdimmick Posts: 10,001 ✭✭✭✭✭

Ever had a situation where a customer's submission was so bad , that you as a dealer or collector refuse to include your coins on the submission with the junk they are wanted encapsulated. I tried to advise him about what is going to transpire with all the cleaned, recolored , crap he is submitting, but he still wanted them holdered. I had a couple of nice coins I was going to submit with them to save costs , but there so bad I don't want my coins being associated with this stuff I can assure you. ill wait on a next order!!!

Hopefully you weren't the one that stuck him with the crap. That may not end well.

Did you feel that your coins would be considered guilty by association perhaps resulting in lower grades for your stuff?

Are you saying that you wouldn’t even include your own coins on a separate submission invoice in the same package? If so, I don’t understand your thinking. And if not, why did you say “ill wait on a next order!!!”?

When I had my own business, in the absence of highly unusual circumstances (such as my client and I believing it to be mutually beneficial) I wouldn’t include my coins on the same submission invoice, no matter how nice the client’s coins were.

    Mark,
I have two coins that are nice that need to be submitted, but becuase of the customer coins being so crappy, I did not want to submit them on the same invoice as those coins. Yes, there is such a thing as guilt by association. You can say what ever you want, I have proven that in the past when submitting a coin of mine with other medicore customer stuff. The graders get that box and start looking and realize its just a bunch of problem coins, etc, It matters IMO. I have been told this by past graders from both services first hand over the years. In fact, was even told about this when I took one of the grading seminars put on by one of the TPG's years back. I do realize that yes, I can use a different submission form, and include both shipments in same box, but being there is only two coins of Mine, Ill just wait for another day as something else comes in to get a few more to go at same time. I have a deal coming in late week, that may have a piece or two I would like to submit.

I completely understand about not wanting your coins on the same invoice. I just didn’t understand the part about not submitting them on a separate invoice in the same package. Thanks.

Of course, there's always the possibility that your coins would have looked extra awesome by contrast... B)

He's frugal and doesn't want to pay a separate submission fee and return shipping on his two coins. If he waits someone else pays the freight.

At coin/sports cards shows I've seen 3 examples of the same year piece in a case. Put the outstanding example between the 2 lesser grade pieces so the better example stands out that much more. Catches the collectors/buyers eye better.

I’m sure the fixed fees are reduced for the client accordingly.

    It's really simple.

He just didn't want to associate HIS stuff from THAT stuff.

No, it’s not really that simple. The other option (which would have also avoided associating his stuff with that stuff) would have been to submit his coins on a separate invoice in the same shipment. And jdimmick subsequently explained why he declined to do that.

True, in no other country in the world would such freedom have been possible...
