When the Summer Seminar was cancelled this year, the ANA spent some time trying to figure out how to move some material online, and created the ANA eLearning Academy to give a taste of some of the classes that would have been offered. On July 8, from 12:00-2:00 pm MDT, the ANA eLearning Academy will be presenting Collecting and Investing in Morgan Dollars. This will be a 2 hour version of the 22 hour in-person class that would have been taught at the ANA Summer Seminar this summer. Michael Fey and I will be conducting this over Zoom through the ANA.
As it is greatly abbreviated, we'll be covering material in far less depth, but it will give a flavor of the things we do in person in the classroom. Obviously, we can't pass coins around, either. We'll try to answer a few questions during the class, but what we can do there will depend on the number of students. We want to give you a taste of what you'd experience in person.
As this is the ANA's (and our) first attempt at this we're both excited and a little anxious as to how this will go and how it will be received.
Normally, you need to be an ANA member to participate in the Summer Seminar, but this year, the ANA eLearning Academy has been made available for FREE for everyone. In addition to the Morgan class, you can take some of the other classes they're offering for FREE at various times during the two weeks from the end of June to early July, including grading, counterfeit detection, the modern minting process, and others. The web page just went live today.

Excellent... Online classes do work. I have taken several myself and when combined with an active discussion forum, they can be very good. Also, my wife is a professor at the college and teaches online, has for about five years now...Cheers, RickO

Very well. LOL.
It's basically a web-based video phone chat. It is really easy to use. It's free for limited home use. I spent 4 or 5 hours per day on Zoom after we shut down the campus and I really find it to be an excellent tool/product.
We could actually use it to have a virtual coin club meeting. If anyone wants to try it, I can set up a Zoom.
[Then we can yell at each other face-to-face.]

I had signed up to take your class this year at SS. But since it was cancelled, I cancelled my vacation time from work and now have to work on the day you are having the Online class. Bummer!
Hope it goes well and maybe I can take your class at SS sometime in the future.
