1785 Confederatio Cent / Large Circle Stars

USMCUSMC Posts: 329 ✭✭✭✭

I was left a good number of gold & colonial coins from my grandfather.
I have colonial coins that have been sitting our safe for almost 40 years
now, and I am curious about some of the coins.

The note with this coin is:
1785 Confederatio Cent / Large Circle Stars

I am considering sending this coin in for grading?
Any opinions on it would be appreciated ....

Thanks,
Al / USMC

While my knowledge of Colonials is sorely lacking, that coin strikes me as a copy.

I know nothing about these, but it appears to be struck (not cast) and has some age to it.

Tourist souvenir from before the days of the Hobby Protection Act. Essentially worthless.

I have a pre-HPA Continental Dollar that looks neat and I'll bet these old copies are worth 2 or 3 $ on eBay, so don't toss them in any case., ;)

Definitely a copy, hope the rest are good ones!

I cannot say either way, but interested in more of what you have in that collection. Cheers, RickO

It's sad, but as mentioned above, there are many fakes in old collections. The Hobby Protection Act was passed in 1973, so fakes were a very big issue even that long ago and before.
