Gold Shield NFC Technology Chip

JeffMTampaJeffMTampa Posts: 3,314 ✭✭✭✭✭

I just received a submission back with coins that have the new chip. Dows anyone know if our phones can read these things, or are thy for PCGS purposes only?

I believe you'll need an app.

if your phone has NFC communication it can be read. That was the whole point, you just hold your phone to the slab and it brings up the cert verification.

You would need to download the PCGS Cert Verify app on your phone in order to use it.

    Works great, I recommend it.
However, it isn't that much harder to read the bar or QR code.

Most newer phones (both Android and iOS) can read the NFC chip natively without an app. If you have the Cert Verification app installed it should take you there to see the details and verify the validity of the chip, otherwise it will take you to the Cert Verification website.

If you have a phone that doesn't read the chips on its own but still supports NFC you will need to download the Cert Verification app and tap the "Scan NFC" button to read the chip. If your phone does not support NFC you should not see the option to scan in the app.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Don't forget to go to settings on your phone and turn on NFC if you haven't already.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

There is no setting to turn NFC on/off on an iPhone. Your phone does support NFC but not in the background. That means you need the PCGS Cert Verification app and to tap the "Scan NFC" button before you can read the chip.

With an iPhone there is no NFC option to turn on. You’ll have to use the PCGS Cert Verify app to use NFC.

On Android phones, it is under settings...right near the top of the page. Cheers, RickO

Got it to work on both the iPhone and Android. The coin almost needs to be touching the phone to activate. Thanks for all the guidance!
