Decisions, decisions?

Happy Memorial Day, guys!
When ones pocketbook is not too deep. Esp.living in these times. Does anyone have the same dilemma as myself? I've just got back my recent acquisition. Boy was I excited waiting,as well as, when I finally received it. Now, I'm torn. Lol No big problem but I'd like to get excited once more. I have purchased a few, as well as, hunted down a few coins that I would love to send in. Here's where my thread takes form. Brother, what in the world, I only want to send in one coin. Remember, my shallow pocketbook. I boiled it down to a final two coins. Both I found in roll searching. Both are modern Lincolns. I'm hoping they both have a shot for an upper grade? Here are the final contestants.

In high grades, both of these coins have nice premiums. However, the 1991 has a special quality.
I'm not sure what exactly do you call it, it has some sort of lines, running throughout both sides of the coin?
Anyway, is there anyone else on the forum having the same issue as I have ?
I'm thinking of that Barry Manilow song, "Trying to get the feeling ". Meaning, I'm trying to get that anticipation feeling once again on receiving another graded coin.lol thanks.

The 81-D looks low grade to me due to the obverse with all those little hits. And on money the more coins you send in at once the less the cost per coin because of the $10 sub fee and the $20-30 return shipping. So sending 1 or 2 coins is not the way to go.

Save your money. A single coin submission costs about $60 all-in? Wait until you have at least a few good ones (most use around $200/coin) to amortize shipping and submission charges. Even then, these won’t qualify. They look nice though. Enjoy them in an album.

Save your money and stop wasting your time trying to find the ultra high grade modern Lincolns. The 1981-D that you show is a dog that would likely come back as an MS63, if that. You don't appear to have nearly enough experience in the ultra-grade game to succeed. Playing the game will only cost you a lot of money with no return.

It’s impossible to definitively answer your questions based on your photos. But if I had to guess I would suggest saving your money.

Well all I can say is good luck on your submissions. I just usually send them all in if I can’t pick the best one. What ever one you end up choosing may it come back with what your hoping for. Sounds like lots of excitement of anticipation coming your way. Ohhh boy I sound like a fortune cookie!

IMHO spending $50 to submit either one of those coins is evidence of having too much money rather than too little.

Save your money....neither of those cents are worth submitting.... Think Cost/benefit....and I do not think they slab those silver rounds. Cheers, RickO

LOL. That doesn't really answer my question. What am I checking for? Big players have custom labels done, but I was not aware that anyone could just submit a silver round to NGC or PCGS.

I don't think anyone slabs generic rounds. There are some promotional issues where NGC has done custom labels. I don't know if PCGS has done the same thing or not. But you have to be a big submitter and pay for the custom label. I'm not aware of anyone who takes submissions of random silver rounds.

NGC might.....they will slab about anything. But I doubt PCGS will ever slab Silver Rounds. I can't believe they slab Silver Eagles though......so I guess anything is possible.

NGC does custom slabs. I've never seen a generic slab

To answer your question, YES I've struggled in making choices on what to submit. Usually end up mulling it over for a week or so. Now, neither one of your coins would I submit. The 91 looks better. 291fifth says your 81 would probably grade ms63.
I don't believe it would make 63. Save your money.

I too like the '91. Esp. It having those lines running through them. I don't know if you can actually see them with my photo but they're unique.

Joey Joey Joey....what do you consider an upper grade? I've a lot to learn about grading, but even though these look nice, I don't think they'll grade too high. They both have lots of bag marks. I've sent in a few batches of coins for grading, no silver rounds, just coins I wanted to see protected in a slab, and graded. I had some disappointing returns with some Peace Dollars previously cleaned and one counterfeit. And even one that couldn't be graded! The anticipation is great, and it takes me awhile to decide where I want to throw money toward grading...not everything should be graded. Sometimes it's nice just having some raw. My advice, learn more about grading before submitting. Then when you do get serious enough to begin grading, join PCGS and enjoy the hobby!

Ok guy's thanks! I just don't send these out on a whim, I always counsel with my dealer friend before submitting. Just as I previously done with my 1864L Indian Cent. He recommended it and I sent it in. Came back along with a satisfactory response from me. Lol. Once again, I want to thank all you guy's for your concern and help!

I believe you lost money on your 1864L Snow-1 Indian Cent, correct? In the past 3 years, several G04 specimens have sold on GC:

ANACS G04 $35
ANACS G04 $51.66
PCGS G04 $61.49

When you factor in your purchase price, shipping/insurance, PCGS grading/attribution fees & True View pic, you must have spent more than that on your coin, and yours is only AG03

It would only make sense to send in your 1991 cent if it would grade MS68, and I'll venture to say that yours is not MS68. It has planchet striations, which gives it nice eye appeal, but I wouldn't expect a premium for that. Hopefully, as you think about how much money you stand to lose on such submissions, the anticipation/excitement will go away pretty quickly...

At your current level of knowledge, my advice would be to only submit coins that would be valuable enough at any grade to make it worthwhile. A variety like the 1864L Snow-1 cent doesn't qualify - it is too plentiful and not popular or valuable enough justify the submission at low grades. If you cherrypick something like a genuine 1916-D dime, then go go for it!

If you just love the look of coins in slabs, buy your own empty slabs and do it yourself at a fraction of the cost!

PCGS certifies the bullion issues from nations all over the world, but they are government authorized bullion.

Please, send in your silver round and see what happens. Round trip shipping is just more tuition.
