1899 $10 Liberty PCGS MS62 (Rattler)

AzurescensAzurescens Posts: 2,816 ✭✭✭✭✭

It was nicer than a fair amount of 63s with/without beans and some 64s w/o beans. It was between this and a less appealing 1901 MS64 and I'm not really sure what to think about that without seeing this in hand.

I would still be happy with the coin if it graded out details/scratched (stars 8 to 9). I'm not very focused on the grade on the front though I do believe the hits would keep it from hitting a 63 anyway.

I wanted a pocket piece that wouldn't ruin me if I lost it or broke it and I'm very happy how this turned out. Although it's not Gold Shield, it's still PCGS, and that was very important to me especially while I learn color of gold in different lighting and holders etc.

I'm gonna be handling it a lot so the rattler made the decision that much easier. And sure it'll probably break if I drop it unlike the amazing stuff pcgs makes today, but that's a risk I'm willing to take.

Very nice! You’re gonna carry a slabbed pocket piece? That’s hardcore.

I have never heard of carrying a slabbed coin as a pocket piece....Not that there's anything wrong with that ;) .... It is a nice gold eagle with some remaining luster....Cheers, RickO

Very eye appealing coin. I agree with others, get an XF or AU to carry raw. Leave this one be.

    A pocket slab eh?

For the record that coin would grade 63 today. Congrats!

A "hefty" 3% premium. Though with a gold star, considerably more. Something tells me no gold bean on this one. JA is very tough on giving those out. Nice coin though.

Don't carry it with other coins, car keys, etc. If you do you'll scratch up the slab and after awhile you won't be able to see the coin. If you want a pocket piece, buy a nice raw AU Liberty $10 near melt value.

I was going to suggest getting a velvet pouch or something to avoid scratches to the plastic.

Also, no chance that coin would regrade as Genuine.

Maybe I don't understand the term right.

It's a slabbed coin I'll have in my pocket for reference so I thought that's what it was. So maybe not I guess in the traditional sense? I carry a silver eagle around because I like wearing down the rims. Seriously it's really fun.

I'll find something for sure. It's just gonna be in pajama pants around the house for now. Thank you for the recommendation it's not something I'd normally think of.

Also, no chance that coin would regrade as Genuine.

What does this mean please? As in, it'd catch details? Or would straight grade? Sorry for the stupid question.

I'll tell you what; here are my pocketpieces. I'll give you one of my $10s for yours! Can't say fairer than that!

Thank you for weighing in. I like that the coin has some in sub-optimal conditions so it can only get better from here.

Awesome, I thought so in relation to the other pieces, but wasn't sure. The bidding was surprisingly low and slow, and the 2nd place bidder locked in his final bid a couple days ago.

Was a little worried because there was a significantly worse ms63 $10 liberty for $250+ more.

Velvet wouldn't help, it's abrasive. You need to put plastic sheets (like for phones) over the slab. Otherwise the cloth of your pocket or pretty much anything else will eventually "polish" the slab enough to probably make it cloudy.

Sweet pick up! I'd treat her with care. If carrying around, try to possibly find a plastic holder to put around the rattler to protect from scratches, etc. Cool find!

I suppose I am never going to get the whole pocket piece experience.

Well OK, perhaps some sort of microfiber designed for cleaning plastic lenses. Personally, I wouldn't really want another layer of plastic on the slab for optical reasons but then again, I probably wouldn't be carrying a $10 gold piece around with me either. ;)

I mean I don't think the scratch is egregious enough to warrant a Genuine (details) grade. It should straight grade and possibly at higher than MS62. Nice purchase!

Those screen covers are pretty transparent. They can also be changed later when they get cloudy. Much harder to polish the entire slab when it gets cloudy

You could always drill the slab and make a keychain. B)

Of course, you risk creating a trend. :D

It definitely makes for an awesome "pajama piece".

Gonna be putting it in real plastic. I've been waiting for the coin that drives me into a pcgs membership.

The photo is trash compared to what it looks like IRL. And it still looks great hah!

Can we get a pic after it goes through the wash? ;):D

I've lost so many $5 eagles in my couch I bet the thing will jingle if I kick it.
