What advice would you give a new PCGS message board user?

Mine:
Treat opinions and threads here like an amusement park.
Some comments are fun.
Some will spin you around where you may want to throw up.
Nothing should be taken too seriously.

Read and learn.... the knowledge dispensed here, almost daily, is amazing. This forum is literally an online numismatic library, with the books being forum members dispensing their knowledge and experiences. Cheers, RickO

Was that aimed at me??
You can make money in coins but it's generally not a get-rich-quick hobby.
This. But I did it for close to 5 years.
Stay away from the "off topic" threads. They'll either get you in trouble, or tick you off, or both.
If you think you have found an error coin, think through on how the "error" happened before or at the time the US Mint dies struck the coin or coins. If the "error" or potential damage happed after the mint dies struck the coin, then the coin has post mint damage PMD.
I can't do all 3 on the same post! 😜
Lol, just like the Quality-Speed-Price triangle. Typically you can only get two...
toughen up if you're a sissy, loosen up if you're a bully. you'll meet your forum ID somewhere in between the two.
It's a place to discuss your hobby... which should be fun so Have Fun!!
Post as many coin photos as you can!

When posting here , please be specific in the title of your post and if selling on the BST, include EBAY or GC or HERITAGE if that is where the coin is actually for sale.
Eg: What would happen if.......
Just thinking aloud......
. What would you do if.....
are NOT good ways to title your post here.
Also, do not refer to coins as "her" since they are genderless things.

I still don’t know if it’s poor protocol to search an old (sometimes 12 years old by now) topic and add a new reply to it. Do I start a new topic about Lexington wooden boxes or add to a 15 year old thread?
Be polite.

Unfortunately, some very good contributors have been banned. Remember that this is a privately owned board - only semi-public. So there is a great deal of self-censorship that goes into what people post.
Go hang out for awhile at Car, Gun and Pet forums...
then come here ready and TOUGH.
Level IV body armor. Don’t take the know it alls, kiss my ring types too seriously, expect to get some shots taken at you. Once you get that thick skin, it’s a lovely place to visit and learn.
Realize that some of the members have been collecting coins for a long time and have the means to afford high quality coins that are out of the price range for many starting collectors. Enjoy what you can afford and don't be discouraged when looking at posts of coins that would amount to many months of paychecks. I collect what I like but will never have a collection that is in the same tier as some of the members on this board. I'm still happy with what I have and am also happy for those others that have put together great collections and are willing to show them to all of us.

Take things with a grain of salt. Some veterans know what they’re talking about and some do not. Same goes for novices. There is something to be learned from everyone, though. People incorporate humor here, so treat it that way and don’t be easily offended. Read as many threads as you can....You will learn a lot. If you feel that you have something to add, please don’t be afraid to speak up. Have fun and watch out, as this can be very addictive!!
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

Learn that some of the most prolific posters have the least to say. Other prolific posters have gold in every comment.
Identify the axe grinders and ignore them as such.
Be leery of anyone named Insider1, Insider2, InsiderX, etc. You have an "ignore user" feature on your profile. Comes in handy.
When I've had the opportunity to meet some of the folks who post here in person, they're always more complex, more interesting, and incredibly nice. Communicating in this forum format has severe limitations.
Oh, and post nice coin photos.
