Picked this up last week. Would love to hear opinions and feel free to share yours.

Looks genuine to me, but has been polished or possibly even plated, based on the photos.
I agree, looks polished to me. A shame.
I don't think it is I have seen many coins polished but I don't really know for sure. these are under direct sunlight.

I hope you got it at a deep discount. The huge number of contact marks are really distracting. And yes, the coin has been polished (or plated as mentioned above).

It was photographed under direct sunlight which may explain the polished appearance. Can we get pics from indoors using a lamp?

Too many contact marks to be this bright. Either polished or dipped.
Whizzed... Still would look nice in the album as a filler.
I think it is a fake--the 2 is way too thin, unless the date area was severely whizzed. Also, the 1 looks too high and too close to the bust.

Agree that the OP's coin is fake. I have a real one and the date is totally wrong on the OP's coin.

I tend to think it's fake. The polishing was provided to hide tooling marks.
My eyes tell me it just don't feel right.
Date not really comparable with a real 1942/1 Mercury Dime.

The Chinese have been making most key date US coins including 1955 DDO cents, 1909-S VDB cents, 1916-D dimes, etc. These coins can frequently be found at your local flea market and on eBay.

The coin certainly has altered surfaces, by polishing/plating/whizzing....the date details also vary slightly....I would agree with the group that says fake...Cheers, RickO
