Hi guy's, I bought this on a last whim. While I was visiting my B+M shop, along with my purchase of another Indian Cent, I decided to try to revive this sad looking Cent. Lol I figured, why not? First of all it only cost me a buck and secondly, if I was able to clean it up a bit, I can maybe find out if it's one of the cool varieties? The "doubled letters" on the headband? Can I ask you guy's advise? How should I start? Acetone or Goo gone? Now, I am aware of not expecting miracles here but at least to try to get some results. Is there even any hope in removing any of that green gunk? To me, the coin itself appears to not be in too bad of a condition, other than the obvious. Even if I have to run it with a Q-tip, I will. Lol thanks guy's. Please dont mind my silly enthusiasm.

Doesn't look like that one can be saved. Heavy corrosion has eaten most of the surface detail.
Terribly sorry friend but I believe it's far beyond expert repair. I can send you some circulated Indians that aren't too bad if you wanna message me a shipping address. I don't need the $3.50 postage.

Would carrying it as a pocket piece take some of the corrosion off? Agree that it looks like a fun project.

Try soaking in OTC hydrogen peroxide for 24 hours. You can't hurt that IHC any more. If you see that the corrosion is dissolving, flip the coin and refresh the H2O2 for another day. Peace Roy

The coin is way too far gone to save. At $1.00 it was overpriced.

For a buck ? I'd have done the same thing. It's a project coin. You've got the time, can't hurt it none. Go for it.
Any ancient coin experts here? Ancient copper or bronze coins are frequently found with heavy corrosion and they are conserved to make them collectable and identifiable. Of course they will still show the effects of the corrosion but at least most of the crust can be removed to expose the lettering and details. The entertainment value of conserving this coin is worth far more than a dollar.

The corrosion has eaten away (obliterated) the devices. If you remove the corrosion, there will be nothing underneath.

I believe the corrosion on that coin goes deeper than the devices....You certainly can work on it, and you will learn some things...what you learn will be far more valuable than the resulting coin. Cheers, RickO
Here is the result in trying to reappear any signs of life this coin once had. I feel like a mortician who tries to make the dead look presentable to the public. Lol. Anyway, first I tried to let sit in a bath of acetone. Then, I added some "goo gone" to the acetone. Let sit a couple hours. Then, I brought out the big guns. I took some olive oil, along with some baking soda, rubbed together. Then, wth the oil and baking soda still on the coin, I added some hydrogen peroxide. Let sit a little bit. Here is the coin afterwards. I will continue to use other products.
There is a difference but still not able to see any letters in the headband. If you notice, on the obverse, you now can make out her lower face. Also, some letters in the word, "America".
