So....Is the 1855 date a typo? Or was the box opened in 1855, and coins added to it?
I remember this.
Note the date on the article - January 2015.
The box has been opened a few times and coins were added at those times.

Yep...what Yosclimber said...
I saw the thing pop up on my newsmedia earlier today....I thought "cool" and then I opened one of the articles... FIVE flippin' years old. WTH was it showing up as if it were "new" now?
Read the article and they had already opened it once, in 1855, and added "contemporary items" and then put it back. That's why you saw the 1855 in there....
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Wow, I didn’t know you were SO OLD!!!😆
My collecting “Pride & Joy” is my PCGS Registry Dansco 7070 Set:

Nice!
It is amazing how well the newspapers held up. Certainly a historical treasure, given who first assembled it and the contents....Even though it had been opened again some sixty years later. These old time capsules are so interesting. Not sure if it is done much anymore - it should be. Cheers, RickO
You know, I thought this sounded familiar but I wrongly assumed it was a different event since it's presently in the news. I guess it's in the news now as it's going to part of a mini-series?
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Couldn't help but think of this time capsule disaster opened in 2007:
Watched this just now with my wife. One of our favorite scenes from all of moviedom.
The movie itself is now horribly creepy, about a rich guy setting up a young girl as his sex toy, but Hollywood was very big on that premise in the 1950's.

Amazing find !!!
Is there a further numismatic write-up in the last 5 years? I would be interested to see better pictures or learn the varieties of the 1794-1795 coins especially.
