Is This Morgan NT or AT?

I just purchased this colorful Morgan and suspect it's naturally toned but I'm not an expert. I would think PCGS would have labeled it "Questionable Color" if there were any doubts on their part. Obverse is bright white with a semi-pl surface and has good cameo.

Looks NT to me, but not particularly attractive.

The coin is lighter in hand with more vibrant colors and reflectivity.. I've heard PCGS graders will place the reverse on the front of the holder if they are impressed with it. I've also heard customers can request a coin placed that way. Either way, these are fairly rare, probably less than 1%.

Looks NT to me, maybe a bit of wrapper toning in there. On a Morgan, this toning is just OK but have it on a Seated or Bust half and you really have something!

I'm 99.9% sure that PCGS will only holder a coin reverse up if requested to do so by the submitter.

Yep, NT and I think rather pleasing in tone. Personally, I’m not a fan of the reverse being on the label side but that’s just the little OCD I have.

I suspect the coin looks better in hand than in the photo. It is NT but it would help to post an image of both sides. One sided PL 1879-s Morgans do surface and that is not uncommon. Looks to be an attractive addition but please keep in mind this is date is likely in the top 5 for best quality for the entire Morgan series... I would rate it behind the 1881-s and 1880-s so it would be third on my ranking of quality by date/mint. So the bad news in all of this is that there are many terrific examples of this date floating around.

NT, and PCGS will holder coins reverse-side up if you ask them to. I tend to prefer them holdered the traditional way.

Obverse looks semi-pl, with a decent cameo.

I've had coins with a similar look rejected as AT. I think the difference is the light area in the center of your coin. That cant be done with an AT method as far as I know.

NT. And between "attractive" and "very attractive." I'm a fan....wish it were on the obverse though. They still bring a nice premium with pretty reverse toning.

    Completely NT . . . . .

How much you like it is not a question of the OP . . . . .

That may not have been the OP's question. But when people go out of their way to call this toning neutral, average, or even not attractive, that deserves a rebuttal imo. Would anyone like it if it were actually QT or AT?

    OK toned 64 - NT.

No question NT and IMO a side of the bag coin...I see hints of some textile toning.

Agreed. With a 4x magnifier, the textile toning is clearly visible. Much nicer in hand!
