Anybody ever had success reholdering a crackout with a true view ??

WaterSportWaterSport Posts: 6,927 ✭✭✭✭✭

Bought a raw cracked out proof with a label and trueview.

  1. I already know PCGS considers it a raw coin but do I just submit it raw and cross my fingers.
  2. Submit it with its label and hope for sympathy. (or will the staff just take the label from the start)
  3. Submit it as a reconsideration with the label.
  4. other....

Damage could have resulted while the coin was out of the holder. Additional hairlines, scuffs, scrapes might not show up on the old True View. Some additional toning or surface contaminants could have been added by subsequent owners.....which might show up after it's holdered again. Can't see why a TV would be enough to reholder.

It can't help to include a reference to the old True View. But I don't think the graders will get that information.

The graders will receive the coin, not the old cert. Submit it raw.

Raw only. The other stuff would be tossed. This is the risk one takes when cracking out a coin. It’s the right choice for some people but it is a risk if the need/desire to sell ever comes.

...sorry I misunderstood the question. There would probably be no way for them to do that. Gotta go raw as who knows what happened to the coin during/after the cracking ;)

It does make me wonder when/if the gold shield “machine learning” picture thing comes into play. Certainly I can see it for super expensive coins where authenticity is questioned but in general I wonder how it benefits the slab holder.

I had a 1913 type one matte proof-66 buffalo nickel that I tried to cross over to the 66 grade but pcgs would not do it!
So I cracked it out and sent it in raw. Then I got the 66 grade! Sometimes you just have to be brave.

It is raw, period. But please return the certificate to keep the census reliable...

It will be treated as raw no matter what you send with it... so save your label and good luck. Cheers, RickO

LOL. The pop census is hopelessly inaccurate due to all the crack out and resubmissions over the last 34 years.

Raw is your only choice. That's how the graders will get it.

If you want a TV tied to the new cert# you'll have to have it reshot.

I like to stick the old cert on the back of the slab.
