Environmental Damage on Seated Half
I saw this Seated Half with the green corrosion look. The green does not look like PVC to me but does look like oxidized copper. With these halves being 90% silver/10% copper alloy, I guess I would not expect to see this to this extreme. For those in the know, what is the cause of this and what exactly are we seeing here?

It looks like it was stored somewhere with high humidity. I hope the owner considers the restoration option.
It's a sad thing when a potentially high grade coin looks like that. Restoration would be advisable as long as the cost is not excessive. The coin still may not look great but may end up being an acceptable album coin.
Any chance that coin came from the SS Republic shipwreck? The date is a common one from the wreck.
Such a shame... a really nice coin, but my impression is, restoration may leave it with obvious surface damage. ICBW...and it is up to the owner...but if restoration is attempted, would love to know/see the results. Cheers, RickO
Sure looks like something very close corroded and bled onto that SLH. Unfortunate damage. Peace Roy
