1968D Silver Quarter error.

Does anyone know about an error coin being struck on a silver planchet? If so what would it be priced at?

Pictures? Most likely it’s plated. Weigh it to see if it matches the weight of a silver planchet.

Very unlikely that it's a regulation 90% silver quarter.

Easy. Send it in under the error coin tier and get it authenticated. That’s your best bet. Then you can consign it and reap the rewards. That’s why places like PCGS exist.

Well, then, you'll never know. :D

You really should post pics here first, though, since there are experts who can give a free opinion.

Please post focused cropped pics including the edge. You said the coin was thicker than normal, which isn't a good sign. A silver quarter planchet should have the same thickness as a clad planchet. That fact should raise your concerns about it being a silver planchet.

If you still believe you have one and don't agree with the answers here,, and can't provide pictures, then you need to send it for authetication. TPG services require the coin be sent insured, and members on here have sent thousands upon thousands coins with a very very low number of incidents.

Maybe a 40% half dollar planchet (as you state it is thicker). How is the strike overall? It should be stronger than normal as the 40% planchet is "softer" (so to speak) than a clad planchet.
    Good luck with you find.

@Ala_SiverHound75....Welcome aboard.... without good detail pictures, we really cannot help. The facts you have given so far, indicate it is not authentic (i.e. thickness). If you submit the coin, let us know the results. Cheers, RickO

Best guessed without pictures, in order of likelihood:

    1) plated
    2) counterfeit
    3) possible error

Not sure why you are so positive it is real. You didn't share your rationale for that.

As others have said, the thickness is the first bad sign.

I’m sure the OP has read all the replies. I kind of doubt we will get any more replies let alone details/pics. Solution is simple: if you truly believe you have something special you get it authenticated. Odds are very much against it, though.

It's thicker than a regular quarter.

Weighs 6.25 grams and is thicker than a 'regular' quarter ...

Is it the same diameter as a 'regular' quarter?
