The paint flaked off since it was probably used as a pocket piece.

I think that would be considered a federal crime.

    You would be wrong.

Maybe not a Federal crime, but a crime against my senses (rods and cones, well the cones anyway).
Acetone or Xylene? Not sure MS-70 would touch it. Or dip.

I'm going to flag this. I really believe this is the right thing to do here.

Before sending it to the melting pot, that would be a coin I would smash with a hammer a few times, run through the dryer, etc. Putting a symbol that has been co opted by those who destroy individuals Liberty on a coin showing liberty is wrong on so many levels.

Maybe it could join other like it with a swastika, etc.

I believe the flag didn't flake. I think that is supposed to represent a battle distressed flag.

There's that pesky little "freedom of speech" thing to consider. There's lots of things that I find offensive in public life, and this is way down on the list.

Irrespective of the subject matter, it was well-executed. It appears as though the sun is also colored gold.

It actually depicts a specific battle-distressed flag:

I dont hate it, look at the reverse of this coin...

Think of it as more of the history of how our nation became what it is. Our country was torn in two by skewed beliefs and way of life, and later became a better union.

The Eagle, Shield and E Pluribus Unum banner right over the top of a tattered Confederate flag.

I am from Kentucky, where we had families fighting on both sides. My wife is from Tennessee, where it was mainly (but not all) confederate. Her uncle is an active member in sons of confederate veterans. I know many many good people who do not view the flag as a symbol of hatred or racism. And I know many many good people who do. I know no one who likes the flag and views it as a racist flag though.. but I am sure there are those out there (though I think they are in the minority). It means different things to different people. I am a live and let live kinda guy, so it does not bother me. I can respect your opinion if it does bother you though.
