Grades popped today!

So, as I mentioned before I’ve gotten back into this coin thing over the last year. I was heavy into it for many years and decided to return to early commems and Franklins. But I wanted to dip my toes to make sure I was committed and started with more common, “minor purchases,” mostly from eBay to keep it simple. What I bought wasn’t of the caliber many deal with here and for the most part grading point changes do little to effect “value.” But I wanted to test myself and see what I could pick cheap that also looked good, and then submit to arguably the strictest service out there. Here’s what happened in my first PCGS sub:

In line order, what they had been and what I was expecting:

Cleveland NGC MS65 expected 65
York ANACS(swh) MS62 expected 64
Delaware ANACS(swh) MS64 expected 64
Long Island NGC MS65 expected 65
San Diego NGC MS65 expected 65

As usual ANACS small white holders were diamonds in the rough. This is obviously not always true but my record with them is about 30 coins with points increase, 2 same points, and zero coins with points losses.
My biggest surprises were the YORK jump and the LI failing to cross. The LI was literally THE one I had the most confidence in.

(Couple points, all were crack outs as I feel that’s your best chance for cross and I consider myself super conservative in my grading. I buy coins for what they are, what I like in them, NOT the holder. But, that being said who doesn’t like a point(s) bump?? Answer = no one!

Congrats on the "crack outs"! I just don't have the confidence to crack out some slabs for submission. I keep 'em in their other slabs and if they don't cross...oh well.

Congrats, looks like you did well. And your name is also appropriate for your submission!

62 to 65? Wow that coin must have looked flat out wrong in the anacs holder.

    Nice job!

I’ve been lucky with upgrades on quite a few old white ANACS holders. Love finding nice ones at coin shows, well...when they used to have coin shows.
