Can you spot a coin collector even before he tells you he's a coin collector?

For example, you're at a party where you don't know most of the guests. As you are introduced to various people are you able to spot the guy (or gal) who passionately collects coins even before the conversation drifts into interests?
And if so, what do you base your speculation on?

Outside of shows, this forum, various dealers, and my immediate family, I don’t talk to anyone about coins. A seemingly pleasant conversation today may be tomorrow’s burglary report.

You can stand around at parties and point at people and say THEY collect coins.

One of my customers from a show I did years ago stood by my case for quite some time. I admittedly got nervous due to the face tattoos, finger and hand tattoos. He ended up buying some 8 reale coins. One in particular was a killer 1783 that I made that did NOT come from the ElCazador. Turns out he’s a hell of a nice guy and a knowledgeable collector. Nobody would look at him and say “there’s a coin collector”.
There are clues... a loupe around their neck, grey sheet in their shirt pocket, and jingling change in their pants pockets....

At coin shows you can smell some people, that might be a clue. Personal hygiene is not some people's forte.
Nope. If I saw myself at a party or event other than a coin show, I would never guess that I was a coin collector.

Not if he is a serious collector with half a brain. Discretion is a collector’s best friend.
I can't tell. Most visitors in my shop are trying to sell. I keep thinking there are no collectors. Just heirs and heiresses who could care less.
On a side note, my daughter asked if I knew the difference between Dubai and Abu Dhabi. I said "no".
She said the people in Dubai don't like the Flintstones , but the people in Abu Dhabi do

I don't even try these days. Outside of the small circle of collectors I've met at meetings and shows, I've not met a serious collector in the wild since I was a kid (and many of us were collecting from circulation, pestering the bank for rolls).
I actually saw a guy at my local pub wearing a PCGS shirt.
He said he's worn it a bunch of times & I was the only one that commented on it.
Apparently he collects ASE & hunts for junk silver.

Non-coin collectors actually like me to talk about my odd business, many get fascinated and ask many questions.

Arguably the more important person to be able to spot. The old lady with the sock full of coins.
The last party I attended was filled with cops, corrections officers, FBI and firearm instructors....We talked about situations and gun collections...One guy was fiddling with a challenge coin....I did not mention my extensive collection of those since it was relevant to his organization...Cheers, RickO
