Short Set to Share for those locked away at home

Recently updated the weak link of my set (the 54-o) and thought it would be a good time to share it again. I have always had a fondness for circulated gold esp from the southern mints. This charming short set of the New Orleans 1$ & 3$ which were only made from 1849-1855. The crudeness of their manufacturing using the new found California gold in the political Deep South pre-war makes these relics fascinating to me . There was no 1$ made in 54 possibly because of the retooling of the design and efforts to coin the new 3$ which shares its design with the type 2 dollar coin which saw limited production. Fun and cheap way to collect southern gold in a completable set. enjoy

Neat old Gold from N.O..
easy enough that anybody can but challenging enough that there is satisfaction. I mixed it up by adding older holders and a mint error. Other notes
1-picked the failed die for the 1849, find it charming & crude. Real product made by real people as they were figuring out the new series
2-the 50o might be the key date for the series
3- 52 is scarcer as the grade rises, finding an error was lucky
4-the 1854o 3$ is one of the hardest coins I have come across to find unprocessed any series. they are all dipped and stripped
5- 55o is a cool coin but it isn't as rare as the 50o, just more expensive being a type 2

Nice looking set. Thanks for sharing.
Really nice set: historic southern gold that is relatively affordable. Given the degree of wear apparent on the coins, it is interesting to think about where these coins were and what they purchased during the Civil War.
