Many us us have heard about how the Philadelphia Mint had to close in various years due to yellow fever. Here is a non-numismatic account of its effects upon Philadelphia in 1793.

Read "Bring Out Your Dead", quackery killed as many people as the disease, including by the leading physicians of the day.

A great book on this subject actually follows the ship as it spread Yellow Fever around the Atlantic: Ship of Death: A Voyage That Changed The Atlantic by Billy G. Smith (2013).

About 10-12 years ago when my daughter was in high school she brought a book home that they were reading for history class.
It was called Fever 1793 and though written for a slightly younger audience, it was a good read.

That was a great read and I am familiar with the history of this happening. My son and I have done some reading up on Dr.Rush, fascinating about the blood-letting. Thanks for passing along this link.
