Help with a Truman assay medal.

I have a small Harry S. Truman assay medal from either 1948 or 1949, approximately 33mm in diameter. I wondered if anyone can help with knowing how many were issued and what an approximate value might be. I have a link to a Stack's listing from the just past March auction which includes the larger 56mm along with its smaller cousin, but I can't find anything else about the smaller medal. Below is the Stack's link and an image of a the medal.
Thanks in advance for any help.

I cannot help with any further data Al, but I will say that the portrait is an excellent likeness.... unlike many of the presidential coins I have seen. I recall hearing many conversations (when I was a kid) between adults and the opinions then were as diametrically opposed as the discussions of today. In retrospect, history had judged him to have been a very good President. Cheers, RickO
@keets Using the Google I have located U.S.mint annual assay reports posted online. Just read the 1946 report wherein it does describe the minting of 11000+ commemorative medals and sales revenue. Haven't read 1948 or 49 yet. Peace Roy

Consider starting the search in 1945... It seems plausible that it dates from the year he became President. His Inaugural medal from 1949 does not look as attractive as this medal.
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
That is not an assay medal. It’s a small souvenir medal that the US Mint sold. For a period of time, it was listed in their catalog. Originals, with a 1947 date on the reverse, were also sold.
Variations of this reverse, in different sizes, have been paired with several different obverse dies, and used for various occasions.
It is not an Assay medal but rather a Presidential medal from a short live series starting with Calvin Coolidge and ending with Harry Truman. All are the same, bronze, 33mm, most with the Mint on the reverse but some with a bold eagle, some are dated and some not. That Sinnock - Pietz Mint reverse was used on several different topical and different sized medals. The 33mm are nicely made, popular because of the reverse but not particularly scarce (although I don't know what constitutes a "complete" set & if there is a rarity within the series). I listed several different on eBay lately & the ones that sold went for under $25.
thanks for the clarity guys.
