Trade Dollar - Original?
I bought this Trade Dollar last year. Now I wonder if the Coin is original. There are many fakes I think.
Hope it’s not a fake, isn’t it?
Thanks in advance for your appreciate estimations.

Here is an original:
weighing it would probably help determine the authenticity. The s mintmark size and position looks suspect compared to the original photo I posted. I am not an expert!
It looks slightly granular and the mint mark is too big. I'd vote counterfeit.
Now that I look closer, I am seeing some issues...It could very well be fake....Hard to tell without really being able to compare against a real one in hand.
So far, everything posted here is not helpful. Large "S" mintmarks were used on some dies. Additionally, when the image is magnified the coin looks lie a granular fake. What's needed is a large, SHARP image.

I would vote fake based on photo and and the fact so many are faked. The price paid might be a clue.
Sorry, I forgot to give the weight:
weight: 27,3 g diameter: 38,03 mm
I hope this photos are better
I paid € 195,--
Look at the definition of the little berries at the end of the branches being held by the eagle on the right reverse.
I say it's authentic.

Looks okay to me.
I believe my comments about the berries was wrong. They had a few reverse die's. It could be real.....The weight looked right.
Probably genuine. Nice images.
I vote it’s real
Looks real, but mistreated - cleaning has removed original surfaces. Don't know if 195 Euros is a good deal, but more than I would pay.
Thanks guys for the comments!
The second set of pictures is much better... appears to be authentic....I like Trade dollars... Cheers, RickO
I would say it's genuine, but cleaned / altered surfaces.
Can’t tell 100%. My only concern is what may be raised lumps on the reverse between “STATES” and “OF.” I’d have to have it in hand to be more certain.
I see nothing that makes me suspicious of it.
Looking only at the first photo, I probably would have said "fake."
Looking only at the second photo, I probably would have said "authentic."
Good lesson on trying to make judgements based on photos.

Fun exercise actually. Made me get out all my books, and start reading up. Yes there are a variety of reverse dies used, mint-mark sizes vary. I can't judge authenticity...It could very well be real....The other comments about the surfaces are accurate. It looks like it was cleaned. Most original Trade Dollars I've seen have a deep patina they acquire over the years.
Many thanks to all for your opinions. I appreciate it very much.
Well, I hope that’s not a fake coin, because I’ve only this one.
The Trade Dollar has always been one of my favorite US Coins...Love the design. It's just a a really unique looking coin among all the US designs. Here is an amazing proof example! Note how the reverse eagle feathers are not completely finished....
I'm not good with counterfeits but I also see the eagles feather s do not go all the way to the second arrow and the wheat stalks do not go into libertys banner. ????
