Post something numismatic that amuses you

jonathanbjonathanb Posts: 3,722 ✭✭✭✭✭

In the thread on the PO-01 New Rochelle, @MrEureka said, "it's amusing, and that has value to many of us".

I like that description. Post something numismatic that amuses you or makes you smile every time you look at it.

I'll start it off with my "barbared" dime:

I found and purchased these on eBay. The auction said they are made by Aizics mint, I couldn’t find much info about them but it looks like they only sell through amazon and these weren’t available. I don’t have them in hand yet but I was a little bummed that they are larger than a typical cent.

The following are from @ErrorsOnCoins - just super fun to look at. Thanks!

    2002(?) Kennedy Half Dollar - Waffle Cancelled - NGC BU - Ex-EOC

    I love looking at this:

    • Kind of like the masked President - guess who it is!
    • Eagle's head is visible
    • Dollar text is visible

I never realized how deeply these are struck / grooved. These are like crinkle cut french fries. Much deeper than cancelled Canadian coins, of which I have some too.

    2019 Lincoln Cent - Raw

I love the wear and spiral patterns on this. This one is from EOC's washing machine!

Your tokens are coal company scrip tokens. The following is from Wikipedia.

    Coal company scrip

Coal scrip is "tokens or paper with a monetary value issued to workers as an advance on wages by the coal company or its designated representative".[6] As such, coal scrip could only be used at the specific locality or coal town of the company named. Because coal scrip was used in the context of a coal town, where there are usually no other retail establishments in that specific remote location, employees who used this could only redeem their value at that specific location.[7] As there were no other retail establishments, this constituted a monopoly.

There is a national collectors society for these: National Scrip Collectors Association (NSCA):

    -Obverse
    -Reverse

The second coin is a well known replica of an ancient bronze lepton of King Alexander Jannaeus of Judaea (r. 103 - 76 BC). The original coin is often associated with the biblical parable of the "Widows Mite" (Mark 12:41-44).
