Bank lobbies closed around the country.

I have always kept my silver and gold in my bank vault. Not at home. With many banks only offering drive thrus due to coronavirus., I find it a bit disconcerting that I don't have access to my gold and silver. Are any of you rethinking this strategy. I am of the belief that having a safe at home is an invitation to a burglary.

The banks in my area all have lobbies open by appointment and greatly reduced branch staffing. The safe question is are you @Ricko, with an "arsenal of democracy", ready to defend your stuff. I live in hunting country and most people here are more than willing to shoot idiots, or at least the idiots believe they are.

I sure hope I can get something notarized through the drive in window.

That was me. I called the bank and they said they would let me in to get to my SDB. Call your bank. I may still remove the contents of mine.

As the saying goes if you don't hold it you don't own it.

Home safe is not a good idea either, instant magnet to a thief imo.

Get creative, many places to stash things where nobody would think to look. Also the reason I prefer gold over silver. Much easier to stash $100K in gold then it is $100K in silver. 60 AGEs vs 10+ monster boxes of ASE.

The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.

Good point, dementia is possible as is bank failure and home invasion. Mom is in a nursing home and if she hid any gold I hope it is in a SDB.

One more thing to keep in mind. With the reductions in bank staff and the near elimination of retail traffic, banks and SDBs are more vulnerable to robberies. If you don’t have SDB insurance, consider getting it.

@Ricko, you and I have a lot in common in attitude and training. It is on my bucket list to get up there and train with you, once this mess is over.

Just tape a nice note to the top of the box before sliding it back into position:

It occurred to me that, with everybody staying at home now, times are tough for burglars, too.

I wonder if they can file for unemployment as well. :)

The biggest problem with this strategy is the vulnerability of our coins when nobody is home.

If you hide stuff at home, get good at drywall patching 😉

If you have either a small safe in the basement screwed into the floor or 1000 pound safe on the floor, no casual thief is going to steal anything.

My collection is in a SDB, but what concerns me is if a non-casual thief were to pay me a visit. And no, it’s not like I have a world class collection and perhaps I’m overly paranoid.

No thief wants what I have.

I do not have gold nor silver.

What I do have is close to impossible to fence.

Only specialists that I know would be interested in such material.

All inventory is unique with high end photos of both sides of every coin stored in the cloud.

No problem with my bank - After we closed on selling a piece of property this past week, I called my banker and said I really didn't want to shove the settlement check through the drive-thru slot. He said to meet him at the entrance to the bank where he took the check and went in and deposited it for me.

Paranoia. Having a safe at home, if nobody but you knows about it, does not invite burglars. If you start blabbing on social media or to friends, etc, then please rethink. There are many other ways to "hide" precious metals at home besides in a safe (maybe the safe is a decoy?). Look around your home and think like a burglar and then do the opposite. There are many places in and about my home that would likely never be searched by burglars.

i'll still go into my open bank lobby and do biz yeah careful is what they are but they still have a open lobby as long as i get things done i need done in a timely manner i'm cool, and if they push for drive though they will have to make it to where i can get in and out easy as i have very bad eye sight and depth perception so going to narrow areas isn't a good idea for me to try

anyways i expect the unexpected as it will happen anyways

Could this be a big move to going cashless for all of us?
