Can anyone identify the medal below which looks to me like a die trial?? Thanks in advance.

I don't know anything about this, but was curious about the SCD that you were interested in. Did you get it?
It's a uniface portrait medal of his daughter Dorothy which was done in several different metals and materials. I posted an image of the same work in this thread:

Let's try an image instead.
My bad -- that's not Dorothy in the OP but his other daughter whose name escapes me at the moment -- but the comments are the same for both girls.
Interesting die crack.
David Hill writes in ANS Magazine that Adam had a daughter Doris in 1913. The medal in the OP looks to have the date 1918 inscribed below the bust.

Here's a 1908 medal of Adam Pietz's daughter Dorothy with the same bust as the mother of pearl piece posted above. This would mean the daughter in the OP is Doris, since Dorothy was clearly not born in 1913.
the OP date is 1916.
Good to know.
Given they are two different daughters, the medal in the first post needs to be Doris born in 1913. 3 years old looks possible.
If it was Dorothy, should would be 8 years older than shown in the 1908 medal.
Here's a clearer example of the OP type that I sold last year"
Is this a die trial or is it an as-made uniface medal? I've noticed that Pietz seems to have had many uniface medals struck.
It is a uniface medal similar to this Vera medal:
There is also this portrait medal of his son (both I've handled have had the roughed reverse):
Here is a portrait of his mother. Did he create a medal for his father?
Who is Vera?
What is his son's name?
Great thread! I've always had a liking for medals.
I never seen one of those. Very cool.
Those are very nice medals and a unique way to mark family history...Cheers, RickO
