The Bane of the 7070 -- The Classic Head Large Cent -- a Pic?

The best I can for now on pics . . . but I will work on getting better.
A wonderful short run of Early American Numismatics, loaded with history, challenge, scarcity, and conditional limitations. Planchet unavailability due to political tension with Europe led to generally lower mintages, and those planchets that did make it (as we were not making our own in copper) quite often sat in casks in the bilge of a three-master sloshing around in 2-3 feet of seawater as leaks in wooden ships were not exactly rare.
Getting any Classic into a PCGS holder is a task fraught with risk. You need a good eye to look for environmental damage, or a planchet that was just too rough, right from the start of the minting process. Add the normal cleanings, abuse, toolings/graffiti, and you come up with a great coin if you can get it into our host's plastic.
Those of you with pieces in the VF-XF range should covet then and tuck them in at night. Those who may have found an AU for their 7070 need to formalize your paperwork to the Queen for Knighthood. If you have anything in MS range, you won't be found here on these Boards, because . . . .well, why would you take the time you could spend on your private island sipping fine champagne with a bevy of . . . .um, nevermind.
Honor us, and history . . . . .with a pic of yours?

Yours is very nice.
Mine has issues.

Not the best pic. But I am learning my limitations. Also attempting to corner the market on low-grade Classics . . . . .

Mine is not graded, but here it is.

csdot . . . .Mmmmmmm . . a smooth and hard planchet. Crosslet '4'. Nice piece . . . saw some good action buying penny candy throughout the 1820's to 1840's . . .and lives to tell the tale !!!!!

Here is my 7070 example. It’s worn, but is free of problems. I love DRUNNER’s low grade set! Very well matched.
Another nice, hard planchet on NSP . . . 'Plain 4' . . . . superb obverse . . .

She's not pretty but I like her.

One more from my Dansco. Maybe I shouldn't have cracked them.

Sweet!
Nice cents.... I have a couple, not slabbed... but nice. Also one that has been tooled, so not good for collection. Cheers, RickO
When my daughter was a teenager (a few years ago now!), we worked together on a 7070. Since she enjoyed the history rather than the numismatics, we focused on low-grade problem-free and attractive problem coins. For the classic cent hole, I went on eBay and purchased a super-cheap 1810 that from its low-res photos seemed to have rough but evenly corroded surfaces. When I received it, I was delighted to find a very honest G4 with smooth, dense original surfaces. The photos - not the coin - were grainy! Got a great deal on that, for 30 bucks including shipping.
Not my best photo, but to be fair, it isn't a particularly photogenic coin either. Indeed these are tough:
Bryce . . . .quite a piece !!!!!!

I would agree!! @DRUNNER yours are nice too! All the cents on here are nice. They are early and some are more wore than others but think of the history they have seen.
Thanks Bear . . . . . . I agree. The history of the coins I have means a lot more to me than the value, in most cases.

Had to make some compromises to complete my 7070, including the SL $1s and this one, which if I recall correctly was graded F with planchet problems by PCGS before I cracked it out..

Here is the one from my 7070 of clips, it's got a pretty wholesome planchet but some unfortunate obverse corrosion:

Nice Sean . . . . .
When you create a subset of 'clips' . . . . you may have to take what you can get in a Classic!!!!

I busted mine out of an ANACS F-12 holder. Glad to see other people's Dansco albums have ill-fitting holes for their cents!
