Open Question: Can PCGS resume operating and maintain Social Distancing?

Since PCGS can continue to operate without interaction with the general public, can there be a way they can operate with no or minimal risk of spreading COVID-19? Are they really any different than Amazon, in that their product is mostly sent via mail?

PCGS may not be considered "essential", but if they can operate safely, any business is "essential" for the economy, and in this case, the coin market.

I would think the coins would be safe - the graders would have to remain 6 feet apart, which I think would be doable.

The state of California shut the doors, not PCGS. They cannot reopen without the State saying it's okay to do so.

It is not feasible to run such a business under the current requirements. People would continuously be interacting. Cheers, RickO

Probably, but it would likely involve a fair amount of additional overhead and training. Social distancing itself would be inadequate in an environment where thousands of physical objects are getting moved around between departments. There are also more stringent sanitation measures required for common areas like restrooms, kitchens, etc. Employees would have to be monitored closely for symptoms. PCGS might also open themselves up to lawsuits on any number of fronts. It might not be all that much of an economic gain to resume operation under such circumstances.

Absolutely yes, they did. Can't say I agree or disagree with it. Can't yell fire in a theater either. Public safety rules.

Wouldn't office air be in a closed system? And isn't this an airborne virus? Would have to answer those questions for anyplace to be safe.

    400 years

I have an oak out back that was measured about 15 years ago, and was 380 - 390 years old then. Absolutely monstrous. It has a fresh set of leaves on. It is not phased by the Corona Virus, so life continues.

I given this a lot of thought and I’m pretty sure it won’t work.

My goodness common sense is in short supply. there is nothing "essential" about this or any other TPG for the coin market to continue to operate. And if you must have something graded there are other TPG's open for business.
