Check out the September 1957 issue of The Numismatist--it is devoted to numismatics associated with General Lafayette.

Lafayette was a pretty cool dude with swagger. His life was, and still is, interesting.

Nice medal. I was able to find some info on this online. It was struck to commemorate Lafayette's return visit to America in 1824, which makes sense since it is in English.

    • Medallist: François Augustin Caunois (French, 1787–1859).
    • Catalog Numbers: Callignon-412, Oliver-35.

Lafayette was one of the best dudes to walk the planet the past couple hundred years. A person you want on your side

@mamieopa ...Welcome aboard....Lafayette was indeed a cool dude, and America owes a lot to his abilities and alliance. Even a street named after him in this village I live in....Yes, it is a very old village and history rich. Cheers, RickO

I put this medal on the site , thinking that it might be of interest for some people of the community. You call it common, but most of the french traders rate it R or R 1.

R-1 is the lowest on all Rarity Scales which is typical for a common item.

German origin, I am living in France, married since 1966 to a Breton. She is always right, even when she is wrong.
Here is a Lafayette token, the genuine is very rare, the mine is a more common restrike.

Just know that French and US rating practices are different. Try to get a look on a French auction's catalog; rare items get a rating R, more common items don't get ratings.
When I put R1 for the Lafayette medal (not the token), I used the CGB and iNumis ratings as I found them in their Auction catalogs (I trade with them from time to time and get their catalogs). For myself, I do not pay much attention to ratings, I like and collect historic items, even if they are of little value.

Your Rambert Dumarest medalist restrike instead of the blonde bronze finish shown also was issued in a darker pre-patina aged finish.

I think the mine is more recent than the brown bronze strikes.
