Yeah, yeah, oh yeah!! RIP to Kenny Rogers, his song "The Gambler" could probably be the anthem for any number of members here. Who among us hasn't taken chances and won some and probably lost more?? What a storied career he had.

RIP Kenny.
RIP
...found my mind in brown paper bag, within...
We saw him in concert a few few years ago. He had just had knee or hip surgery and was limited to a stool and hobbled.
His voice was nowhere as rich as it used to be.
It was still a good show coupled with alot of stories.
He joked and reasoned that he had done all the wrong drugs. He could not figure out why Willie Nelson was healthier and had just received a black belt in some martial arts.
What a diverse entertainment career!

Will never forget when that song was released. Kenny was a major force in the music industry.

RIP, Kenny.
When I hear his name, I can't help but think of a sign painter that did some work for my fathers business. Every spring or so, he would show up for a few days, paint a bunch of signs, shoot the bull, etc. He was the spittin' image of Kenny Rodgers and his first name was actually Kenny! He did impersonations in the 80's locally. Loved guns and loved the ladies (too much so with the ladies) Interesting guy.
Great entertainer.
Anybody remember the "Kenny Rogers Roasters" episode on Seinfeld? funny. (Kenny wasn't in it)
His was an amazing "rags to riches" story. A great talent.
RIP
his career wasn't unlike my collecting career, it spanned a long time and changed directions often until he found his wheelhouse. he did some early stuff that wasn't very successful, I remember his fame starting with the "First Edition" and hits like the thread starter and "Ruby" which are overshadowed by his Gambler days. heck, "Ruby" was almost a Vietnam War Protest Song.
I think he always had his roots in Country Music and I remember the surprise for me when he came out with "Lucille" and the iconic line four hungry children and a crop in the field. he didn't write all of his songs but seemed to have the knack for picking winners. hooking up with Dolly Parton was another surprise and their duets probably are what most fans remember him by.
You picked a fine time to leave us, Kenny.
RIP
I liked his music for sure. Heard kenny and dolly this am. He will be missed
"Through the Years" is a great love song.
Sometimes, it’s better to be LUCKY than good. 🍀 🍺👍

RIP Kenny.
My Mother will be delighted that you can now sing for her in Heaven........as you did on Earth.
He was with the New Christy Minstrels when I saw them in concert in the early 60's. That's been a while.
I liked a lot of his music...but The Gambler was a favorite. I used to play a lot of poker -yep, for cash - and often when debating my status in a rich pot, the lines 'You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em' would float through my mind.....Made some good decisions with that advice.
Cheers, RickO
"I found my mind in a brown paper bag" is one of the most apropos lyrics of the time.
