Neat 1968 Proof Set Error

I bought this at the Houston show today- definitely something I've never seen before. The tab-style box wasn't aligned vertically when it was cut, leading to a really cool error! Unfortunately the back is covered with tape, but it was cheap and I liked it...

Fun
We've been collecting coins too long.
A civilian would simply curse the shoddy quality control.
Nice find!
Any nice doubled dies therein?
Quality control is a life issue. Fun. Peace Roy

Unfortunately not. I was searching a group of about 20 sets when I came across this one. So many good varieties to be found in 1968 proof sets.
You bet! 1970 is a good year, too.
thank goodness these errors are common on proof and mint sets. Not value added but certainly all sorts of printing and encapsulation errors. I saw one the other day that had an extra mint set quarter still sealed in the set.
bob
Error mint boxes now? Did not realize this was a collector thing....
Cheers, RickO
... without a sticker it has no value.
If the box error were important, I guess that it would be faked in less than 24 hours.
PMD? Zonks!
Look for this Mintmark on the 68-S Kennedy, in addition to all the other cool errors:

I do all the time.
As do I.
@cmerlo1 - Neat find on the 1968 proof set!
Here is my own error box - I picked this up at an LCS last year. The viewing hole for the reverse is cut in the wrong place.
Are you sure it's not upside down? Lol
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!

Lol!
No, I thought it could of been mistakenly placed in wrong. Not to question your intelligence. Just curious?
I too recently bought 3 quarters (raw) and a '95 Proof Set, hoping they were varieties. Only one out of four turned out to be worth keeping. Still, worth the try for the low cost.
Getting back to the variety aspect. Yeah, isn't it great that we cherry pickers can still buy these at LOW prices? Worth the chance!

With depressed proof set prices some error proof set boxes might be worth more than the set itself.
this i like
@cmerlo1 @joeykoins
Honestly, you guys...

Let me help your weary eyes!

The hole is normally right in the center of both the red and brown trays (which are separate pieces that fit together), so there is no "upside down". On the error example, the hole is still in the center of the red tray, but is displaced about 1/2 inch off center on the brown tray.

On the photos below, the coins have been removed to provide a full view of the trays. The error is on the left and the normal is on the right.
I think I should get a special Badge of Vindication...
@IkesT My apologies and you are hereby vindicated.
@cmerlo1 It was not a mint set I saw it was a proof:
