I'm starting to get tired of all the groups of folks that are cancelling their events.

This has got to stop soon.

If the hobby does not have coin shows take place as usual, the coronavirus will win.

Can't allow that to happen in "MERICA"......... so I say Buy, Sell, Trade and Carry On".

That means that that show will not have 250 people? By law in MD you can't have gatherings bigger than that.

If you must, please wear gloves and disinfect after every transaction. I do that with my store. Cashiers who wear gloves are only protecting themselves. But the ones who disinfect gloves with lysol after every deal are there to protect everyone.

    Just my two cents.

I'm thinking we'll all live if we miss the March coin shows. We might even survive an April cancellation as well. I know eBay is alive and well. Seems pretty robust this weekend.

There were more than 50 tested positive linked to just a single 50-year-old attorney in New Rochelle NY alone. This is how easily and fast this virus can spread.

Wrong ..... we are all in this together. Idiots that do not believe will infect others for sure.

Then just DON'T GO. You can't control others. Your best bet is to act like everyone around you has it and conduct yourself accordingly.

Offering the opportunity to attend doesn't seem like the smartest thing to be doing right now.

It is not about you, it is about everybody around you. End of story. The federal government needs to step in and lock EVERYTHING down for a 2-3 week period of time while they ramp up testing capabilities, otherwise this will float around for MONTHS and kill hundreds of thousands.

No--anyone who carelessly gets infected will almost certainly infect others, particularly family members or close friends. The perils become the perils of others.

The authorities are trying to stop personal contacts now in order to slow the virus down, and to spread it over greater time.

By doing this, they push down the top peak number of infections and then possibly patients won't swamp the number of trained medical personnel, hospitals, hospital beds, other medical facilities and medical supplies.

They may not know how to reduce the final total number of infections in the end, they really may not, but the authorities can possibly keep the medical system from breaking down completely IF PEOPLE COOPERATE.

Understand that as well as I later said assume everyone around you is a threat since you don't know where they've been or who they've been around. Maybe one's spouse shouldn't even let them back into the house.

We don't know what the truth is. And since all 50 states probably have to react in unison, it is a Federal issue. The Feds probably have a better idea of whatever actually happened in China and their lack of specificity is unsettling.

But, if you have a need to see what happens, apparently Her Majesty's Government in the U.K. has decided to do things in much the way you suggest.

One of the top doctors in Minnesota said this exact thing. All hospitals in the state are 95% full with normal patients, so anything more than the 5% vacancy that they have left they will be overwhelmed. That is why everything is getting closed. They want this to be a slow burn, not to overwhelm anyone and with that time maybe get more info, test kits, and possibly a vaccine. Plus the virus may die down due to warmer temps, but that is yet to be determined....

Successful transactions with: Lakesammman, jimineez1, Flackthat, PerryHall, bidask, bccox, TwistedArrow1962, free_spirit, alexerca, scooter25, FHC, tnspro, mcarney1173, moursund, and SurfinxHI (6 times)

    More like millions.

UK Population is 68M and they've tested 40,279 or 0.06% and found 1,372 cases or 0.002% of the population

US Population is 331M so 0.002% is 6,620 cases... we have only reported half that because of our pitiful testing rate.

if 50% of the US catches it, at 3.6% fatal, that's 6M deaths.

The mortality rate in people who tend to collect coins (i.e. 60+) is conservatively 3.6% (at 80+ it's 14.8%)

Seems like i and others on this forum said this weeks ago arguing with ill informed coin dealers. There is a reason boomer remover is trending. In a week coins will be just about the least important thing in our lives. I pray more listened to the informed and continue to follow guidance from Dr Fauci and not Sean hannity.

Here’s the thing. What good is a “slow burn” when the economy and our way of life gets destroyed. People are six meals from rebellion. When everyone’s cash broke because they’ve been barred from working and can’t afford restaurant delivery is the amazing federal government going to deliver 300 million meals three times a day, for weeks or months?
This is a herd thinning people. Plain and simple and it has happened thousands of times across millennia to ALL species. I’m not heartless. If I died my family would be devastated as I would be if I lost one of my kids, or my wife. But on a macro level the current “just stay home” crap is simply not feasible for 98% of the population. We’ll be lucky to get through a week before the violence starts under a lockdown.
Oh, and if the hospitals are normally 95% full then we were screwed long before this thing started....

I was attempting to be conservative as to avoid being accused of hyperbole. Realistically, given the CDC's failure as well as the failure of the Federal Govt to react appropriately, I feel we will see a couple million in the US dead because of this.

I shopped last week with someone from Taiwan in Europe. She wasn’t in China when they went on lock down. She’s back in China now on 14 day self quarantine. With the amount of people going back and forth from China to Taiwan it’s a pretty amazing job.

I was more impressed by how they utilized reserve troops for early prevention effort instead of "asking federal troops to help create hospital beds is one we should try" said NY Governor Andrew Cuomo to President three months after outbreak. :s

    e.g

Feb 2 • Government facilities (dorms or spare military camps) used for quarantine.
    • Soldiers mobilized to production lines at local mask factories.
