Whats going on here? Error or pmd?

2 sides of the same 1921 high relief Peace dollar. Ag/xf
I'm leaning towards post mint damage , (pmd), probably shearing of some sort, but what say you?
Cause?

Not an error IMO. Your coin was probably either mounted in something that protected the rev. OR someone ground down the obverse and then it circulated. Check for scratches around the obverse rim that don't show in the image.

thanks insider. that's what i thought, but you were right to suggest looking at the 3rd side of the coin! The edge at 6 and 12:00 shows pinchpoints under magnification, prob previously mounted in a money clip or belt buckle.

Yes...That is a prime example of a belt buckle coin...one that was worn a lot. Cheers, RickO
