The great Ray Dillard of Fenton, Michigan has died at age 94. He was a leader (The Leader, actually) in TEC from the early 1980s. As a coin roller, he created hundreds of new issues. He also had a nice and valuable collection of regular, normal round coins, although he had disposed of many of these in his old age. Mr. Dillard was a wonderful gentleman of the Old School and very generous with his elongated coin knowledge and advice.

He was retired from General Motors Corporation and a member of various Masonic Groups.

I might add that Mr. Dillard was a regular on the large Coin Show circuit with his rolling machine and inventory. Messrs. Krause and Mischler and Krause Publications greatly helped to support Mr. Dillard's efforts to promote the Elongated Coin Hobby. With the assistance of his daughters and sons-in-law, Mr. Dillard was able to attend coin shows until very recently.

When I went to my first large coin show, Baltimore in the early 2000's (?) I took my young at the time kids. I made the mistake of showing up on the weekend when the place was mostly a ghost town. The person in the entire convention center the most happy to see us was the guy with the elongated coin machine, who encouraged the kids to make some elongated coins. I dont remember if it was Mr Dillard or not. RIP

Ray was a fixture at Michigan State Numismatic Society show for many decades. It was only in the past two years or so that I did not see him there with his elongated roller machine. RIP.

    All glory is fleeting.

@291fifth Mr. Dillard was a proud member of MSNS and often encouraged others to attend that show. He often told me that I needed to attend, although the show date and distance have always precluded doing that (thus far).
