    No, not to me.

It's a time suck if you don't value what you're reading, but continue to read it anyway (e.g. Facebook, for me!). I value a lot of what I read here, so not a time suck, IMO.

Yes, but that isn’t a bad thing. It just means a lot of interesting things going on.

Question for those few forum members that voted "Yes"---Why are you still here if you think this place is a "time suck"?

It can be both a time suck and useful at the same time, all the parking lot coin threads may be considered a time suck to some and others may consider them comic relief.

I’m much appreciative of being a forum member, to me it’s having the best of the best at the touch of my fingers. I learn something new here every single day, between seeing beautiful coins and watching old men argue... you can’t pay for this kind of entertainment

I feel confident that if I have a “Serious” question or a situation that might arise, World class collectors, dealers, researchers and authenticators are here to help me out. Very thankful for the opportunity to be here.

When I first joined a member said “Read the room” I’m old enough to know what that meant, but not numismatically educated enough to run with the conversation. I’m really starting to pick up on the verbiage of the forum and with my personal study I feel I’m started to get my feet under me a bit and would like to contribute to the conversation a bit more when I feel I have something meaningful to add.

It amazes me that the people who post here have written books, testified as a expert witness, been professional graders, attended famous auctions and purchased/sold world class coins...

So no the forum is not a time suck, I consider it an education and a safe guard for my wallet.

    Thanks Boys

Not for me. I enjoy the threads I find educational/interesting. And disregard the thread topics that I consider a waste of time.

Is the US Coin Forum a time suck?

Well, I haven’t gotten a US Coin Forum you suck yet :(;)

  • rickoricko Posts: 98,724 ✭✭✭✭✭

Not at all... I have learned many things over the years here.... actually about 22 years....The forum totally regenerated in 2001 and we all had to 'rejoin'...so, next year will be the 20th anniversary of this forum iteration....This is a great coin forum with incredible experts available for consultation. It is also well regulated to keep conversations topically consistent. Roll on coin people.... have fun...Cheers, RickO

I just voted yes, but my reading of "time suck" was only that I spend a lot of time here on the forum, not that it is a waste of time.

I don’t always have time to kill, but when I do I like to take a spin through the threads here. Read them while in waiting rooms or with morning coffee. On a rare occasion, I have even started a few.

    No. But.
When I login and the entire forum is full of posts, I often just "mark all viewed" and move on a bit later.
I've found that the content is more interesting when there are fewer, better posts.

    Major time suck for me.

So much great information is being exchanged, IMO, it's easily the most valuable numismatic site on the Web. But still a time suck!

Love this forum - Thanks PCGS!

Interesting post. As I scrolled through the posts I noticed the overwhelming number of master collectors (5 stars) that responded. I deduce that this forum might be a contributing factor to that 5 star position. I enjoy it and might spend a bit more time here than I should but it is NOT wasted time!

I said "maybe"... I get a lot of very useful information on this forum and, it's fun! But, I can see if someone is more engaged here instead of work (to buy more coins...) I could see it as a time suck...
