He is saying that people think they have what they do not actually have.
As in your case, most likely.
Post pics of your purported rarities.

    I'm excited!!

I'm excited that a new collector is going to learn how to spot the difference between a large date and a small date.

Denver minted over 6 BILLION cents in 1982. In almost 38 years, only 2 small date copper 82D cents have been found. Now you believe you found 2 more? Post some focused, cropped pics and we can help you learn. No pics and you quickly fall into the troll catagory.

This is the result of a rash of videos on YouTube and Etsy. Every show now, I get at least one person at the table who thinks they have multiple examples of bronze 1983 and 1982-D small date cents. The 1983's always weigh as zinc, and the 1982's are always large dates. None of them seem interested in learning about coins and are mainly interested in getting rich quick.

One guy a few shows ago showed up with a box of around 100 2X2's with cents of mixed dates that were .1 to .2 grams off on the weight. He said he'd researched them on YouTube and Etsy, and some of the people who made the videos were selling these coins for over $10k. When I told him they were essentially pocket change worth face value and not worth submitting, he got upset, loudly telling me that what I told him "flies in the face of all the research [he's] done". There was a nationally-known error dealer at the show and I told him to go there for a second opinion, and that dealer told him the same thing.

I actually went over to his table later on and apologized, and he told me he was actually amused by the encounter.

Years ago, before I retired, people in the company knew I was a coin collector. Several times a year, I would be approached with a 'valuable find' or 'Grandpa's' treasured collection....Invariably, the 'valuable find' would be common change, and the collection would be a few Morgans and Barbers with little numismatic premium. I recall one individual that became extremely upset with me...never spoke to me again....In his case though, he purchased the 'valuable, investment' coins from TV....Cheers, RickO

I see the op is looking to cash in with an ad for these on the BST, and to no surprise no photos of these amazing coins. :D

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
  • Not looking to cash in i was just wanting help identifying if they were actually the real deal, I thought they were but now after doing more research I’m not convinced. Since no one was actually interested in offering help identifying whether they were and just smashing on me for being new to the forum I didn’t really get much help and did more digging on my own. Anyways thanks for all the abrasive responses.

  • But thanks to those who actually posted some insightful comments, you know who you are.

"Hit me up for scanned images, I haven’t scanned them into my computer yet but will gladly do so if someone is interested. The only one that has ever been found in circulation was sold for around $19,000 in 2017."

So, not only do we have to deal with people claiming to have rare varieties, but we have to "hit them up" to see the photos. :/

If help is/was wanted, photos are a prerequisite. Once good photos and the relevant details are posted, the answers will be forthcoming.
