Notice the R, it does have a split serif?

Probably, but a minor one. One of the experts here will probably attribute it.

There are 48 different doubled die obverses attributed by CONECA. Have fun:

    Looks like DDO-022.

It's definitely a DDO. It actually would be a good exercise for you to go through the CONECA listings and figure out which one!

It probably won't take as long as you think - a lot of the options can be quickly eliminated because the direction of doubling is different or the magnitude of the spread is different, for example.

@morgandollar1878 may well be right - it looks a lot like the DDO-022. I didn't spend too much time looking, but there are a few others that also look similar. One distinctive element on your DDO is the nipple-like doubling on the upper loop of "B". You can use distinctive features like that to help narrow the field and match it to the right DDO.

Nice catch....Have fun getting the right attribution... why not just send it in for slabbing and they will attribute it. Be sure to request it...Cheers, RickO

If you want to go that route, I would send the coin to James Wiles for attribution:
    http://varietyvista.com/Attribution Services.htm

Then, if you want, you can send the coin on to ANACS with his letter and they will put his attribution on the label when they slab it. Other TPG's usually will attribute only the Cherrypicker's varieties (in other words, those with an FS number) - they won't attribute CONECA and Wexler varieties.

I'd still recommend taking a look, yourself. You won't have to spend anything, and you'll polish your skills in the process! In particular, I'd look at DDO-022, DDO-020, and DDO-014:

    http://varietyvista.com/09a WQ Vol 1/DDO Detail Pages/1943PDDO022.htm
    http://varietyvista.com/09a WQ Vol 1/DDO Detail Pages/1943PDDO020.htm
    http://varietyvista.com/09a WQ Vol 1/DDO Detail Pages/1943PDDO014.htm

Be sure to check the doubling on all letters of "LIBERTY" to see which DDO is the better match.

    Yeah, thank you all for your help and suggestions! Great info guy's. Vista is awesome. I can see where you guy's suggest the 022 variety but I see possible others as well? I see a maybe for the 046 or 047? According to the 4 and 3 in the date. Here is why;
' You're right in having fun for searching for that certain variety. but my question like Ricko advised, Is it really worth sending in? I'm wondering the value aspect? Oh well, thanks guy's. At least I finally found something. It's been a dry spell for me. A couple of wild goose chases as well. Money spent on varieties not really varieties. Lol. Maybe I'm losing my touch? I'm not getting any younger you know. :D

As to value - no, I don't think you'd make any money at all by slabbing it. If you had one in high grade MS, you might find a hardcore quarter collector who would be interested, but more than likely, it would still be difficult to get much of a premium, even then.

I don't see the "nipple" on the upper loop of "B" for either the DDO-046 or DDO-047. Like I say, I think your best bet is looking carefully at all the letters of "LIBERTY", because that is where the most obvious doubling is, and where you are most likely to see noticeable differences.

Still a nice find and a neat variety for your collection, I would say! 1943 is a higher mintage date, so the die varieties take more searching to find, relatively speaking. If there weren't so many other doubled die varieties in the Washington quarter series (let alone for this particular date), a variety like this one would probably receive more interest.
