Here is a so-called 1918/7-d being offered for sale on eBay. Why do people do this? Are they actually this dumb?

Hey the guys good with the marker, though.
bob
If the marker counted it would be the variety for sure.
Though most have probably seen this, here is a photo of a lower grade overdate that shows the 8 over 7 clearly.

If you draw a straight line between the centers of the upper and lower circles inside the 8 you get a straight line which
is strongly tilted to the left, on a non-overdate coin this line is almost straight up and down -- almost perpendicular.

It has to be real lol!! I bet ya it came out of a 200 year old safe 😂😂
The answer to your 2nd question is "Yes, they are".
Have you not seen the number of variety threads on here? People just don't know, sometimes.

At least it looks like an authentic 1918. I remember not too far back someone posted an absolutely comical fake 18/7-D/
I don't see it, do you have an item number or link?
don't waste your time with it, just saying
LOL , ironically I just got my grade posted yesterday by PCGS on the one I shipped them. To think I coulda got this one for cheap.

LOL - why draw on the photo when they could draw directly on the coin, instead?
You know, just to make sure the buyer wouldn't miss the 7...
I am no longer surprised at what is found on ebay....Of course, having said that, someone is going to post something on ebay that blows all the other garbage away....
That Buff is obvious.... Cheers, RickO
