I've owned this coin for a couple of years, and recently had it imaged by Mark Goodman. Would appreciate an attribution as I can't find my Overton book.

I actually have no idea. There appears to be enough luster to be AU. I would guess high xf as far as ware. Over all attractive and original.

I would say Overton 103 for sure, great looking busty

You can tell by the lack of serifs on the E’s and lower right side of the A’s on the reverse. It also happens to be the same reverse die used on the rare 1820 O.107

The majority of the coin is 58 like, those hard rubs are isolated, will be interesting to see the grade.

My guess would be Au55.... And Mark did an extraordinary job on those photo's....It looks as if I could touch my screen and feel the surfaces.... 3D quality for sure. Cheers, RickO
This thread is a fairly rare demonstration of a coin with great photos - not surprising, considering who shot them - and a large majority of the grade guesses being in a narrow range (AU53-55). I'm in the AU55 camp.
Regardless of what the assigned grade turns out to be, if you graded the coin other than 53 or 55, you're out of line.

The grade guesses came in almost exactly as I expected, with 55 and 53 being the most popular opinions. I think the luster and eye appeal of the piece in hand make it a clear 55 (even if it's a tweener for wear), and am glad that the Bust half heavyweights on the forum agree. Thanks again to all who participated!
The look of the coin is timeless... The grade in plastic is just not as significant as the look.

Cool coin. I would have said AU53, but I have absolutely no issue with AU55. It seems AU53 is sometimes thrown at coins with an issue item two and that certainty isn’t the case here.
I like it as a 55 also. It's really hard to call how graders treat so many Bust Halves! Many grades have me scratching my head!
I was thinking choice XF, but am a grade low on it.
Edited to add: reason for that was how the surface luster is totally worn away on much of the coin. Minimal wear and original surfaces and toning though makes it a "choice AU" I guess.
There is simply nothing to guess about here... It is one terrific coin that has the look that plastic simply is unable to capture. The grade was already posted before I had an opportunity to express my thoughts. This is a poster coin for what the objective should be for the look... The surfaces and what really matters. Whether coin is a 55 or whatever is largely irrelevant because of the look. It is a very high end AU coin that traded locations between banks back in the day and every collector should take a moment to appreciate this coin for what it is instead of what others pretend to be.
