Has the forum been modified or is it just me?

Badges are given to members who reach a certain level. Ricko is da man. Only three folks have received the fourth badge given for "first answer." It takes 25 to get badge #3. Curiosity, has made me look at Ricko's badges to see what number of answers is required to get the fourth badge. Just now, permission to do this was denied and after three tries the program ended my session. Can someone see if this happens to them.
Go to "Activity." Click on any member and try to open one of their badges. In the past, I could do it. Just now I cannot. I don't think this is a "bug." Wink.

I think it's PFD.
Mex too.
Just hover the cursor over the badge without clicking on it. It's 50 answers.
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
Perhaps I am a contrarian, as I am not a fan of cowbells. It's you.

...what the hell are you talking about old timer?
I have a badge that says ANCIENT MEMBERSHIP. Dang, didn't know I was that old..ugh.

Also, you were good in the secrets of the US Mint...I was watching and then BAM, there you were...just under 20 years younger...but still you. Way Cool
Badges? We ain’ got no badges......
Blazing Saddles "badges, badges, we don't need no stinking badges" LOL one of the great comedys of all time IMO.
@ms70 is right, you just hover over the badge to see it's worth... @Insider2 if you click on the badge, you get a bezerk face saying you don't have permission to do that! Clicking on someones badge 1000 times wins you the badge of stubbornness.

never paid attention to badges. did not know what the were about and did not care
I like my badges. They give me bragging rights and they really impress the women I meet in bars.

I have a bunch of badges....no idea what some of them are....and no idea how they are awarded...I just come to the forum, almost every day, and read posts, often reply and sometimes post something of interest. I guess since I have been here a long time, they accumulate. Cheers, RickO
Originally from “Treasure of the Sierra Madre”. Steenkin badges that is.
I DID notice when I received my fifth star this forum became more snappy and my computer screen brightened up too.
While some folks
just move through life, others
are curious about everything.
I get that one next year. omg ill have 2 marble left rolling around
Yep, I noticed the change as well. Ex: Our Sig lines seem to got enlarged and the words, "Quick Links" appears under the Discussion Bar to the right?
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line.I miss having a title under my avatar. My favorite title is "A Tale of Two Cities."
Agree. Laura had one of those generic avatars. Now, whenever I see it, I think for a moment that she is back just to be disappointed that a new member is using it.
BTW, What happened to Colonel Jessup?
it is not that I am not curious it is just that I expected them to be some sort of useless competition. The only competition I have any interest in right now is competing to keep my family, pets, and livestock safe from plethora of predators around here. I lost another round in that one today.
With all that going on, I'm glad you have an opportunity to post. Most here probably will agree that points, badges, emojis, likes, avatars, and all the other fluff on all the coin forums are unnecessary. I judge members by what they post. Nevertheless, the "fluff" (color options and bold are my favorites) is a part of the experience. Some of us who don't have as many responsibilities (?) may find it interesting to try and figure out how things work - the "lay-of-the-land."
Wait until you get the 6th star. Then the bennies really roll in!
Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.
LOL, you may think you are being funny BUT there is a 6th star and even a 7th! We cannot see them unless the member allows you into his/her "Circle." I got a "Permission Denied" three tims and then was logged out while I was researching one of the 5 star members (in the Circle) to look for his 7th star that was rumored to exist in a PM from one of the certified holders of a 6th (invisible to us) star!
Ah, man! I remember collecting those when I was a kid! Does PCGS slab them?
Insider2, just keep it in bounds for the time being. You ask what happened to Colonel Jussup. Good question. What happened to a lot of people around here? Whatever. Yes, I sense modifications too. Go with it. Don't become a casualty of modification. Keep your head down.......FEARLESS LEADER! Live to fight another day.
I just come to the forum, almost every day, and read posts, often reply and sometimes post something of interest. Cheers, RickO
UNDERSTATEMENT OF THE CENTURY. You're not fooling anybody brother. Can't wait till you hit 100,000! When that happens we should all pick a central location and throw a party in your honor! You deserve it! Keets can give the intoduction. Insider2 will be the keynote speaker. And if anyone is awake after that, you can regale us all on the virtues of BLAST WHITE. An evening for one and all to remember. I'll just sit there stewed to the gills and do my best the next morning to try and remember the previous evenings festivities!
I collect coins. And on this forum I collect thoughts, ideas and advice, but I have trouble collecting badges.
chesterb,
Just remember that the advice you collect from this forum is mostly worth exactly what you paid for it. The smartest thing to do is to try to learn from other collectors' mistakes (aesthetic, financial, etc.).

I really miss his snarky, stream-of-consciousness remarks.

Lurking is fine but all the knowledge of former/present members who cannot or will not post is lost to all of us!
It is unfortunate that many of the most knowledgeable numismatists will not be bothered with chat forums at all.
Shall I assume you are fond of Mme. Defarge?
RMR: 'Wer, wenn ich schriee, hörte mich denn aus der Engel Ordnungen?'
CJ: 'No one!' [Ain't no angels in the coin biz]
True, but you've read CJ's posts too--many found his posts to be unintelligible (as was his intent, I think). I read them strictly for the snark, sometimes aimed at me. When I wanted knowledge, I got it privately.
Your comment concerning the failure of many knowledgeable numismatists to participate is one I share. Pistareen (John Kraljevich) no longer actively participates, and neither does Denga (RW Julian), unfortunately. There are some who posted once and nevermore, and still others who couldn't be bothered.

Treasure of Sierra Madre... Warners 1948... A must see in terms of addressing what has been written here and it is truly a great film with a terrific cast and as well as an under appreciated director.

AND....IRONICALLY I RECIVED MY 250 LIKE BADGE YESTERDAY.LOL
Seems Mel Brooks and Orson Welles have something in common. Their first film as a director... The Producers and Citizen Kane were their best films. And that is not to write or suggest that their other films they directed were not great, but rather it is difficult to improve upon something that left a lasting impression that transcends into the legendary status that few achieve.

In my later years I have come to realize that Mel Brooks' three greatest movies, The Producers, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, were probably so great because they had Gene Wilder in them and they fed off of each other.
Sure, but if the writing hadn't been exceptional, no actor could have saved the films.
I don't know what this rant is about. Reads like a voyeur's confession . I hope I don't get banned for that.

Not a nice lady that Madame DeFarge. Things may have changed around here. But.....until the pendelum swings.....let's keep our heads. We need them. I know I need mine. For whatever it's worth. As Monsieur Rosepierre might have said, " Rockin' the boat ain't worth losing your head over! "
Yea, off with your head! Robespierre would not have been sympathetic. Of course, he ended up losing his head too.

Good movie.
Actually John Huston shares the same thing in common with both Welles and Brooks... Huston's first film, The Maltese Falcon (Warners 1941) is likely his best. Not to say his others including ones mentioned here are not great.
