Why don't we make this one a little more fun by posting our winnings? Rather than grousing about eBay? I'll post something when I find it.

Agree, I have been pretty consistently qualifying for these for the last 6-8 months and this one passed me by.

I’d been waiting on ebucks to make an offer on an item that has been listed for months. Looks like somebody was thinking the same thing and beat me to the punch this afternoon.

I did not get this one. I think I only got two or three in this quarter. eBay cut down a lot on eBay bucks.

Worked out well for me this time, got the bucks and just recently applied for that ebay CC so I'll get a $30 credit for this one buy I made today. Woo Hoo!

I wonder if there will be less eBucks now they are pushing their credit card. $10 credit for every $300 spent on eBay (after the first $1000 during the year). That is over 3% discount unless I am missing something.

  • Options
    coinpalicecoinpalice Posts: 2,468 ✭✭✭✭✭

if you spend 1,000 dollars, you get 5,000 points. every 1,500 points is equal to 10 dollars so just over 3 percent as you said. I wouldn't mind a card, but I already have 48 credit card accounts. it might be the reason for less e bucks

I typically have received an eBucks discount offer almost weekly, except for the months that eBucks get redeemed. However, it seems like I got just one eBucks offer in the past five weeks. Not good.

They have clearly changed their plan with eBay bucks for 2020. My guess is they saw patterns emerging in how bucks would drive behavior towards only purchasing on bucks days, which is not a healthy nor sustainable business model.

i am getting quite a bit more selling promos then i usually get, i think part of the reason for less e bucks promos is they are using that money towards helping sellers out on final value fees

I have been getting the 50% off final value fee promos too, however, if you read the fine print they exclude coins & bullion.

I think so far this quarter I have only gotten one 5% and one 8%. A big drop in both frequency and %.

Absolutely! The first time I received that offer, I got excited, as I hadn't listed coins in a real long time (I'm small fish, so I pay the 10% seller's fee, plus 3% PayPal). I listed three high end Type Coins with lower prices, passing that 5% savings on to the buyer. But shortly afterwards I read that fine print, so I halted the listed immediately. Glad no one bought the items, as I would have then gotten stuck with the full seller's fee!

I imagine that the bullion dealers who had eBucks dropping the net pricing below spot are fairly well impacted by the change in promotional depth offered by eBay

Dealers don't take a reduction via use of eBucks. eBay absorbs that from their profits!

Yes, I mean the sellers who would have sovereigns or whatever listed at 5% over spot with then eBucks making the net price to the purchaser 3-5% under spot.

I believe that eBucks cannot be EARNED on bullion, but the quarterly eBucks voucher CAN be used to buy bullion.

Sellers often list sovereigns and other foreign gold in “coins” vs bullion. Earned many an ebuck this way

Ebay bucks can not be earned on items listed in the bullion category. They can be earned on bullion items listed in any category except the bullion category. Lots of gold and silver coins listed outside the bullion category. For what its worth the US Mint considers its bullion to be only those precious metal coins sold to authorized purchasers and not available for general public purchase on their website. It does not consider its PM collector coins to be bullion.

An ebay purchase of $2000 or more at 5% is the same as a purchase of $2000 or more at 10%. They both reward you with the maximum $100 in ebay bucks. So if you're looking at a $2000+ coin it doesn't pay any more to wait for 10% bonus bucks; 5% will earn the same, maximum amount.

While your math is correct, your point is made only for items selling at $2,000 or more. Not true for items costing less than $2,000.
