NGC TrueView equivalent.

keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

Does anyone know how long NGC has been photographing and posting every coin they encapsulate online??? Also, how long have they been offering "online pictures" similar to the TV's??

Thanks in advance.

Al H.

They have been imaging most coins in holder since 2008. They have had PhotoVision since the 90's, but only in the past 4-5 years have they been shooting coins raw.

I am pretty sure raw images have only been done for a couple years now, tops.

I actually think NGC does a nice job with the images. I of course prefer the universal access to the images PCGS offers once purchased, but the photos are quite nice

the quality of the NGC images may not be on par with a PCGS TrueView but then the coin is in the slab with static lighting. the reason I ask is becausethe cert check links to a picture which helps when viewing coins online. I find I can "trust" what a coin really looks like via the NGC image rather than a seller picture. at the very least, I can double check what I'm seeing, two seperate images of the same coin.

    thanks for the answers. B)

NGC's photovision service is very good, the only complaint I had was that the pics didn't show the luster and color much at all so the coins looked flat and lifeless. If they are able to sort those issues out in the future it would be a very valuable service for them. The very best option for quality photos is Mark Goodman, he is the very best I've ever used. Here is one that I had NGC image on my last submission.

This coin was recently graded by NGC and the picture accurately depicts the coin.

If you scroll through NGC Instagram and think there pictures aren’t that good, you need to see an eye doctor ASAP.
PCGS trueviews are really good but I prefer NGC. Just my opinion.
Also check out PCGS Instagram, they post great stuff as well.

I just checked on NGC's site and searched 5 of my coins... 3 of them had pics (I'm guessing the two that didn't are too early- I've owned them over 10 years) they all looked very close to in hand. They will enlarge very nicely too. Thanks for the heads up!
