Ran at $380 all week.
Thought...maybe... a $712 would do. ![]()
Nope. Oh well, at least it blew out the $426 in a hurry.

Um, no as you bid after the top bidder did

I put it in at 9 seconds. Too much coincidence that someone would top it by 10 bucks a second earlier.

Dunno how snipe programs work but assume that they automatically top any new bid.
I don't have any idea.
But I want to seem knowledgeable.
He bid more than the 10 bucks over, that is just the bid increment.
Now for bonus points, figure out who the top bidder is
If the bidding increment at that level is $10, there's no way to know how much higher he might have bid.
Okay. I'd guess the program sets that for a parameter.
Hell, I don't know. Actually, I didn't mind not getting it. I need a hobby.
Why? Pay him a visit?

Come help me with my Bonsai trees in Sunny Southern California
I...am... messing with the bonsai this week. Nice weather and a false spring. Got the tree wired into pot and
............BOOM......
Surprise freeze that night.
So a few trees are spending nights in the house this week.
My black pines can handle it.
Plus most are in training boxes.
Suppose to be colder tonight.
Imagine having 30 - 40 bonsai with no time to wire them
Pines are impervious to cold. They even NEED a hard freeze dormancy to work right.
It's the olives that don't like chilly.
And....no.... I would not HAVE 30-40 trees. They are WORK!
I love my olive bonsai trees. Hard freezes have not hurt mine in the past.
30- 40 ya my OCD is showing.
Most of my bonsai trees I made about 35 years ago from 20-30 year-old trees (at the time) that I found in a nursery.
I figured 35 years ago, just put them in training boxes and work on root, trunk, and main branch structure.
I thought it would be a great project for retirement, except I do not plan on retiring.
So I am sitting on a bunch of 60 years old small trees that need some love.
I think you are right that I have too many

What a mess .....
Wanna borrow my chain saw? Sorry, inappropriate, where is the love?
Actually, you cost the winner an extra 300 bucks
Early American Copper, Bust and Seated.
Got any Erythrina?

No, I did not think they make good bonsai, but then I googled it and did see a few examples
Thunk of that as it closed.

As far as I know snipes can be set up to a "Nuclear Bid", the highest one is willing to pay. They kick in around 7
seconds before the auction ends. If I really want a coin badly, I set up a snipe bid and bid live at 7 seconds before the clock stops with the "Live" big slightly higher.
I prefer biding live and always get an adrenaline rush when the numbers start flashing, lol
I run my snips at 3-5 seconds and always nuke it if I’m excited about an item to use my snip program it wasn’t me but it looks like a couple of guys put nuke bids in one guy probably had a $999.99 bid

just think about the other guy, you cost him nearly $300.
Looks like at least two snipers here!
When there's a big difference between bidder #2 and bidder #3, I generally consider market price to be bidder #3's price since its very easy for one of the top bidders to not be around, especially since one just won.
Nice trunks on the pines.
But you better start chasing some of the foliage back.
Candling time in a couple months.
Snipe programs usually are set to place a bid x number of seconds before the auction ends. I think Gixen [which is free] is 6 seconds. They place the bid you set in the system. I have not bid on eBay in quite some time so have not kept up with the various sniping tools. I'm not sure if any of them will "chase" bids.
I used to enjoy sniping on ebay....would have two screens with a countdown clock.. and nuke bid at the last 4 seconds....Never lost on one of those snipes... I did lose one when the computer burped just prior to my bid though....Cheers, RickO
It's a mixed blessing. 15 seconds of disappointment but you save the money you would have paid for something that will depreciate.

eBay has a countdown clock now, no?
@BAJJERFAN.... At that time, you could watch the seconds tick away as the auction reached the final hour....I have no idea if it is still that way, have not sniped in a few years. Cheers, RickO
Same here.
No, you sniped the other guy as your bid was a second after his/her and cost them almost $300.
I don't bid very often, but when I do I usually manually snipe and bid with 2-3 seconds left. Now it's easy to do that as eBay has a countdown showing the seconds remaining as you're bidding. Back in the 1990's that was not the case, so I would synchronize my digital watch with the auction ending time and bid with 3-5 seconds left. Sometimes the excitement of bidding like that was a bigger thrill than the victory.

Edit to add: Below is a screen shot of one of the last items I bid on. You can see there where only 2 seconds left before the auction ended.
