What's significant about Sunday February 2nd ?

For starters, it's an 8-digit palindrome worldwide: 02/02/2020 (same number forwards & backwards).

Last time this happened was 909 years ago (11/11/1111). And that wasn't a leap year.

It's also Groundhog Day.

With the proliferation of Mint products, it's probably only a matter of time until we get a Punxsutawney Phil commemorative. Bet it's colorized too.

We should change the reverse of the nickel to a groundhog, sort of like Canada's beaver.

Now I'm gonna search for a banknote with that series of digits. The hunt continues. Peace Roy

My aunt Willadean's birthday on Feb. 2, 1924? She always got really drunk on the 4th. of July. A redhead. As good looking as Maureen O'Hara. Maybe better. A real firecracker. Died at 94. We called her Aunt Billy. Kansas farm girl. R.I.P., Aunt Billy.

    What about 12/21/1221

    Or how about 03/31/1330
    or 05/31/1350

And, of course, it happened very recently

    or 01/02/2010
    or 11/02/2011
    or 10/02/2001

In fact, its going to happen again very soon

    12/02/2021

Your examples are indeed palindrome dates -- in America.

But what about the rest of the world? Not so much...

“'In this century, in the American date system — which is month, day, year — there are 12 eight-digit palindrome dates,' Inan said. "But 'in this century there is only one such palindrome date which is expressed with eight digits, where... the month and day can be swapped.'"

"Put another way: Written as MM/DD/YEAR or DD/MM/YEAR, [02/02/2020 is] still a palindrome. Contrast that with 11/02/2011, which in many foreign notations was written as 02/11/2011."

Yes, that is the rather artificial distinction that the article made. I read it later. Then again, do you have to write the 2 as 02? I mean, most people I know would write today's date as 2/2/2020...

It is also the halfway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox Meaning Winter is Half over.
It is celebrated as Imbolc a 'Cross Quarter' or minor Holy Day by several 'New Age' Religions
It was, or is the day that a ewe's teats should be showing signs of having milk for her spring lamb

  • Only groundhog day that will ever be a palindrome, in any 8 digit Gregorian/Julian, American/European formats. And cannot extrapolate into negative timeline as groundhog day invented 1887
